The predecessor of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts was Beiyang Women's Normal School. It was founded in 1906 by the famous modern educator Mr. Fu Zengxiang. It is one of the earliest public institutions of higher learning in my country. Since the middle of the last century, more than half a century of higher art education has been run. In 1980, it was officially named Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. It is a professional higher art academy with complete disciplines and majors. Since the reform and opening up, especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, it has played an important role in personnel training, academic research, service to society, cultural inheritance and innovation, international exchanges and cooperation, and has achieved outstanding results. It has an important position and is a national-level talent training model innovation experimental zone. In 2005, the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching evaluation reached an excellent grade conclusion.
The school has two campuses, Tianwei Road and Zhicheng Road. The campus covers an area of 111,400 square meters and a building area of 151,100 square meters. There are three first-level disciplines, including fine arts, design, and art theory, all with the right to grant master's degree and master of fine arts. There are 15 undergraduate majors and 12 teaching units. The school currently has 4,923 full-time students, including 4,406 undergraduates, 477 postgraduates, 13 international students, and 27 advanced students.

The school has 444 faculty members and 272 full-time teachers, including 16 doctors, 37 senior titles, 88 associate senior titles, 4 Tianjin Specially-appointed (Lecture) Professors, and 5 candidates for Tianjin’s "Thousand Talents Plan" People. The school has 2 first-level candidates for the Tianjin "131" innovative talent training project, 15 Tianjin propaganda and culture "five batches" talents, and 6 Tianjin "University Disciplinary Leading Talents Training Program".
The school attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation, builds a cooperation with Europe and the United States as the center, expands the layout of the countries along the “Belt and Road”, has signed cooperation agreements with 32 universities in 17 countries and regions in the world, and has reached many Level of cooperation structure. Established "3+1" and "2+1" model credit mutual recognition projects with many fine arts academies in France, the United States, and Italy. The "3+1 double degree" project in cooperation with the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom has been successful Run for 4 years.
