Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The school was founded in 1958, formerly known as Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and officially changed its name to Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2006. Approved by the State Education Commission in 1992, it added the school card of the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is the chairman unit of the Chinese Medicine and Medical Humanistic Quality Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and the chairman unit of the Education Steering Committee of the World Central Committee. In 2017, the school was selected as a national "Double First-Class" construction university list, and the discipline of Chinese Medicine was selected as a national "Double First-Class" construction discipline. The new campus under construction is located on the bank of Tuanbo Lake in Jinghai County, Tianjin. It covers an area of more than 2,600 acres and has a building area of more than 600,000 square meters. It will be built into the country’s largest Chinese medicine museum and Chinese medicine botanical garden; the country’s most advanced Chinese medicine technology Garden and International Education Center of Chinese Medicine.


   The school has 14 colleges, 2 departments, 2 research institutes, 3 directly affiliated hospitals, and 4 non-directly affiliated hospitals. There are 12,621 full-time students with bachelor degree or above, of which 8,289 are undergraduates, 3,440 are postgraduates with masters and doctors, and 892 are international students and overseas Chinese from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao. There are 6 disciplines, 26 undergraduate majors, 3 post-doctoral research mobile stations for Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacy, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine, and 3 doctoral degree authorization points for Chinese medicine, Chinese pharmacy, and integrated Chinese and Western medicine, 22 Doctoral second-level discipline degree authorization points, 7 master's first-level discipline degree authorization points, and 42 master's second-level discipline degree authorization points.


The school now has 2 national key disciplines of acupuncture and massage and internal medicine of traditional Chinese medicine, 23 key disciplines of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 9 key disciplines of the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" of Tianjin City, and 1 national key laboratory cultivation base jointly established by the province and the ministry. There are 1 national-level international joint research center, and 26 provincial and ministerial-level scientific research bases.


   As of October 2017, the whole school (including the first and second affiliated hospitals) has 3635 faculty members and 1,000 senior titles. Approved as a demonstration base for innovative talent training by the Ministry of Science and Technology, with 3 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 masters of traditional Chinese medicine, the Ministry of Education, Yangtze River Scholars, National Outstanding Youth, National Excellent Youth Program, New Century "Millions of Talents Project", Ministry of Education A group of high-level talents such as outstanding talents in the new century and tugong experts from the Ministry of Health. In recent years, 2 innovation teams in key areas of the Ministry of Science and Technology Innovation Talent Promotion Plan have been approved, and 3 innovation teams approved by the Ministry of Education. Won 5 national teaching achievement awards, including one special prize; 3 national-level colleges and universities characteristic professional construction sites, 1 national-level teaching team, 2 national-level talent training model innovation experimental areas, and national-level experimental teaching demonstration There are 2 centers, a national virtual simulation experiment teaching center, 6 national quality resource sharing courses, 1 national bilingual teaching demonstration course, and an off-campus practice education base for college students. The school actively expands overseas cooperation in running schools. In the past five years, it has trained nearly 5,198 students from 68 countries and regions. The special short-term training program has trained nearly 5,827 Chinese medicine talents in more than 80 countries and regions. It has successfully held the Ministry of Education and Commerce. There are 23 advanced training courses for foreign countries such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


   From 2015 to 2017, the school added 226 new projects at the provincial and ministerial level and above. There are 105 national-level projects, including 95 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (including 2 key projects and 1 excellent youth project), 7 projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 2 projects from the National Social Science Foundation. There are 104 provincial and ministerial projects, including 22 projects from the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 6 humanities and social science projects from the Ministry of Education, and 3 projects from the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Won 33 awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including 1 Tianjin Science and Technology Major Achievement Award; the first prize of Science and Technology Award of the Chinese Society of Integrative Medicine. The "Innovation and Industrialization of the Core Technology System for the Secondary Development of Chinese Patent Medicines" presided over by Academician Zhang Boli, the principal, won the 2014 National Science and Technology Progress First Prize and the 2016 Wu Jieping Medical Award.


On September 21, 2017, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Development and Reform Commission issued the "Notice on Announcement of the List of World-Class Universities and First-Class Disciplinary Construction Universities and Disciplines", and announced the world-class universities and first-class disciplines (referred to as "Double First Class") ) The list of construction universities and disciplines, the school was selected as a "double first-class" construction university list, and the Chinese medicine discipline was selected as a "double first-class" construction discipline. The school will actively plan and deploy the "double first-class" construction work, lead the overall development of the school with the construction of first-class disciplines, enhance the school's comprehensive strength, and demonstrate the school's characteristics and advantages.
