Tianjin Medical University, the predecessor of Tianjin Medical University, was founded in 1951. It is a higher medical school approved by the former State Administration of Government after the founding of New China. Professor Zhu Xianyi, a well-known endocrinologist and medical educator, was the first principal. In June 1994, Tianjin Medical University and Tianjin Second Medical College were formally established to establish Tianjin Medical University. In December 1996, it became the only national “211 Project” key construction municipal college in Tianjin. In October 2015, it became a college jointly established by the Tianjin Municipal People’s Government, the National Health and Family Planning Commission and the Ministry of Education. In September 2017, it was selected as the national “World First-class discipline construction colleges and universities".
Tianjin Medical University actively devotes itself to the cause of medical higher education in my country. It is one of the first two medical colleges to approve the trial of the eight-year program and one of the first 15 colleges to trial the seven-year program. The school currently has 2 campuses on Meteorological Station Road and Guangdong Road and 6 university hospitals. There are 21 undergraduate majors, 19 colleges (departments), and 2 teaching departments. There are 5 national-level characteristic majors, 1 national-level professional comprehensive reform pilot, 2 national-level teaching teams, 15 Tianjin municipal-level teaching teams, 1 national-level teaching teacher, 23 Tianjin municipal-level teaching teachers, national-level 7 quality courses, 5 national quality resource sharing courses, 3 national quality video open courses, 3 national bilingual demonstration courses, 3 national talent training model innovation experimental areas, and 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers , 2 national college students’ extracurricular innovation practice bases, and 74 national college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship training programs. In 2002 and 2008, the school passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching and the seven-year higher medical education teaching level assessment with excellent results. In 2012, 2013 and 2014, it passed the Ministry of Education's nursing major, stomatology major certification and clinical medicine major international certification. Since 2009, the school has won 1 first prize and 1 second prize for national teaching achievement, 7 first prizes and 10 second prizes for municipal teaching achievement. The school formally established the International School of Medicine, an education management department for international students in China, in 1997. International students come from 91 countries. The scale and quality of international student education ranks among the top medical schools in the country. There are 8 national-level English-taught branded courses for international students in China. Tianjin There are 25 brand-name courses taught in English for international students in China, and the "Establishment and Practice of English Teaching and Quality Assurance System for International Students in Clinical Medicine" won the first prize of national teaching achievement. The school was recognized by the Ministry of Education as the first English teacher training center (medicine) to come to China.
There are currently 10 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 2 doctoral professional degree authorization points; 12 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, and 7 master professional degree authorization points. The school university hospital has 13 specialties selected into the national key clinical specialties construction project, and the cancer hospital is the first batch of national clinical cancer research centers in the country. The school has 6 directly affiliated hospitals and 15 non-directly affiliated clinical colleges.
The school has successively established academic exchanges and cooperation relationships with 96 universities and scientific research institutions in 22 countries, carried out high-level international cooperation in the fields of medicine and biomedicine, and hired 119 world-renowned medical experts and professors to serve as honorary professors and guests in various disciplines of the school Professor, established the "Foreign Expert Advisory Committee" to promote the international development of the school.
