  History

  Tianjin University of Science and Technology was founded in 1958 and was named Hebei Institute of Light Industry at the time. It was one of the first four light industry undergraduate colleges established in my country, and was affiliated to the former Ministry of Light Industry of China. In 1959, the main teachers and laboratory equipment of the Pulp and Paper Major of Tianjin University were transferred to our school and became the main force of the major of our school. In 1964, during the major adjustments of the Ministry of Light Industry to the colleges and universities affiliated to the Ministry, the fermentation engineering major of the former Beijing Institute of Light Industry and the major of plastic molding and processing from the former Wuxi Institute of Light Industry were successively transferred to our school. In 1968, the school was renamed Tianjin Institute of Light Industry. In 1971, all majors in pulping and papermaking of Tianjin University were transferred to our school. In 1972, the former Beijing Institute of Light Industry and Salt Chemical Industry and the Tanggu Salt Industry College of the Ministry of Light Industry of China, which enjoyed the reputation of "Salt Huangpu", were merged and transferred to our school. Since the reform and opening up, the school has entered a period of rapid development, and the construction of disciplines has achieved remarkable results. Pulp and Paper Engineering became the first batch of master's degree authorization points approved by the Ministry of Education in 1981, and the second batch of doctoral degrees approved by the Ministry of Education in 1983. The authorization point is the first doctoral degree authorization point in the same discipline in the country. In 1998, the school's management system was changed to a joint construction between the central and local governments, with Tianjin as the main management. In 2002, approved by the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed Tianjin University of Science and Technology.
