Shanghai Maritime Vocational and Technical College is approved by the Shanghai Municipal Government and recognized by the Ministry of Education. It has the legal personality of an independent institution and specializes in cultivating advanced maritime technical skills. The predecessor was a full-time full-time university under the Ministry of Transport and was established in 1978. In 2000, it was placed under the management of Shanghai Municipality in accordance with the decision of the State Council. The college is affiliated to China COSCO Shipping Group Co., Ltd. and managed by China COSCO Shipping University, which belongs to the group. The education business is directly in charge of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission.
The college took the lead in piloting higher vocational and technical education in 1986, and is one of the universities in Shanghai with the longest history of engaging in higher vocational and technical education. In March 2003, it was listed as the Shanghai Demonstrative Higher Vocational Technical College Construction Unit; in 2006, it accepted the "Higher Vocational Talent Training Work Level Evaluation" organized by the Shanghai Education Commission, passed the re-evaluation and acceptance in 2008, and accepted it again in 2010 It also passed the “Evaluation of Talent Training in Higher Vocational and Technical Colleges” organized by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission; in 2012, it was selected as a construction unit for specialized higher vocational colleges in Shanghai, and was listed as a training base for high-skilled talents by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. The Ministry of Social Security awarded the "National Skilled Talent Cultivation Outstanding Contribution Award"; in 2016, it passed the evaluation and acceptance of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission "Shanghai Special Vocational Colleges" with the excellent ranking. The college has now developed into a higher vocational college integrating academic education, adult education, crew training, and cadre training.
Majors offered: There are 4 teaching departments including the Navigation Technology Department, the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Department, the Shipping Management Department, and the Public Teaching Department and a training center. There are 16 majors in total, and the employment rate of graduates is over 90%.
Teaching facilities and equipment: The existing usable campus covers an area of 5,5039.8 square meters and a building area of 79151.02 square meters. It has facilities such as teaching building, laboratory building, information graphic building, student dormitory building, outdoor sports field, etc.; it has a seafarer career open training center, international shipping public training center, navigation technology training center, marine engineering technology training center, Five major training centers including the Electromechanical Technology Training Center. Among them, it is equipped with advanced training places such as large-scale ship handling simulators, marine engine simulators, simulation teaching ships, steering gear training rooms, GMDSS training rooms, and LPG simulation training rooms that have reached the international advanced level of technology.
Faculty: There are 112 faculty members, 52.7% of the teachers have a master's degree; 91% of young teachers have a graduate degree (degree); 89.5% of teachers have senior and intermediate professional and technical positions; have captains, chief engineers, etc. 71.1% of teachers with double qualifications of all kinds.
Approved by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, the college has a training center that specializes in various types of adult higher education. At the same time, it is also one of the crew training institutions with the largest scale and the most types of training among domestic maritime colleges. The types of training include basic safety training for seafarers approved by China Maritime Safety Administration, competency training and special training for seafarers, and other training programs for seafarers. The annual training is over 10,000 person-times of all kinds of seafarers. There are currently 28 trainings for various types of crew qualifications and certificates.
