New York University Shanghai was established in 2012, approved by the Ministry of Education, and with the strong support of the Shanghai Municipal Government and Pudong New Area Government, the first Sino-US joint research university in China established by East China Normal University and New York University.    The undergraduate education of NYU Shanghai breaks through the traditional professional boundaries, and uses the most cutting-edge interdisciplinary innovative training concepts in the international higher education community to carefully design a set of curriculum systems suitable for the development of NYU Shanghai students.


   Students are admitted regardless of their majors. The first two years of the four-year undergraduate course mainly train students in the core courses of general education. Through the six courses of social culture, natural sciences, mathematics, algorithmic thinking, language and writing, we strive to build a solid and complete knowledge base, rigorous and active training. The ability of thinking and the cultivation of a comprehensive and broad academic vision, allowing students to receive a complete learning of the core knowledge of human civilization, and to be exposed to the content and development trends of various disciplines, so that they can fully understand their own academic interests and expertise, and make more targeted choices.   Students can determine their professional direction at the earliest after the freshman year. New York University Shanghai offers 12 majors (including 19 directions) at the undergraduate level, as well as a wealth of minor majors, covering various fields such as business, computer and engineering, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences.    After completing the first two years of studies, NYU Shanghai students can go to other campuses and learning centers in NYU’s global system to study overseas for one to two semesters. As the world's first world-class university to carry out large-scale internationalization, New York University has established three degree-granting campuses and 11 overseas study centers in 14 major cities on five continents.    NYU Shanghai recruits teachers from all over the world in accordance with NYU standards and relying on NYU’s world-class faculty resources and selection system.
