Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine

Shanghai Second Medical University (formerly known as Shanghai Second Medical College) was established in 1952 by the St. John's University School of Medicine (1896-1952), Aurora University School of Medicine (1911-1952), and Tongde Medical College (1918-1952) in 1952. The school was merged when the faculties were adjusted. In 1997, the school passed the "211 Project" formally approved, and it is one of the "211 Project" universities that the country will focus on. In 2002, it passed the "211 Project" "Ninth Five-Year Plan" project acceptance and the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" construction project demonstration.

   The school currently has 12,400 faculty and medical staff, including 10,168 professional and technical personnel, and 1,340 in-service personnel with senior professional titles. There are currently more than 5,700 students in the school, including more than 1,000 doctoral and master students, accounting for 23% of the total number of students in the school. Since the establishment of the school, more than 25,000 graduates have been trained.

   The school has 13 colleges; 1 directly affiliated department (department); 1 national key health school; 5 general affiliated hospitals; 1 specialized affiliated hospital, 15 teaching hospitals, and 126 teaching and research departments. There are 2 seven-year majors, 6 undergraduate majors, 6 three-year higher vocational majors, 3 post-doctoral mobile stations, 31 second-level doctoral programs, and 47 master's programs.

The school has 74 disciplines, including 6 national-level key disciplines, 7 Shanghai key disciplines (including 2 "most important" disciplines), 22 key disciplines of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and 9 leading medical majors in Shanghai. There are 15 municipal research institutes, 3 research (training) centers, 2 World Health Organization cooperation centers, 1 national key laboratory, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Health and 1 city It is a university open laboratory.

Relying on strong scientific research competitiveness, during the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" period, a total of 447 vertical scientific research projects at all levels (135 national projects) were obtained, including 3 national key basic research "973" projects and 3.5 major projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. . The school also undertakes 67 educational and social science research projects, of which 6 are "Facing the 21st Century" project of the Ministry of Education. During the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" period, 199 scientific and technological achievement awards at or above the provincial level were won, including one second prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2000 (the first prize is vacant), 16 national scientific and technological progress awards, and one national invention award.

   The school has decades of experience in running a school, and has always had the tradition and advantages of "learning from others, being creative, rigorous and realistic, and focusing on quality". It has the advantages of abundant clinical medicine teaching conditions, the combination of clinical medicine education and research; the advantages and characteristics of diversified school-running models, compound talent training, diversified curriculum systems, flexible teaching methods, and actively absorbs advanced school experience and teaching concepts at home and abroad. In China, the school has established an inter-school teaching collaboration relationship with Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and other institutions to jointly train students in the seven-year clinical medicine program, biomedical engineering, and public service management. In cooperation with the Shanghai Institute of Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, a health research center was established to jointly carry out scientific research. Internationally, it has established inter-school links with 28 schools in France, the United States, Japan, Germany, Belgium, Poland, the Netherlands and other countries, and hired 215 foreign experts as honorary professors, consultant professors and visiting professors. The organization, the United Nations Population Fund, the Hong Kong China Foundation, and the American Civil Health Foundation have extensive cooperation. The seven-year French course in clinical medicine jointly run by China and France is one of the key cooperation projects between the governments of China and France. Students at school use French as their first foreign language, and some basic courses are taught in French. Every year, the French side sends professors to the school to participate in teaching. Those who have passed the assessment are selected and sent to a French hospital to train as an intern resident for one year.

The school is known for its strong clinical medical education teachers and superior clinical teaching conditions. It has five general affiliated hospitals including Ruijin, Renji, Xinhua, Ninth Hospital and Baosteel, and a specialized affiliated hospital of Shanghai Children's Medical Center. The total number of beds has been approved. There are 4767 beds, and there are 15 teaching hospitals that have been evaluated by the Municipal Education Commission and the Health Bureau, with a total of 6197 beds. It is the medical school with the largest number of affiliated hospitals, teaching hospitals and beds in the country.
