Founded in 1952, Shanghai Institute of Physical Education is one of the earliest sports colleges and universities established in New China. It was jointly managed by the State Sports General Administration and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government in 2001. In 2017, it was selected as one of the first batch of "double first-class" construction universities in the country and the construction sequence of high-level local universities in Shanghai. The school adheres to the socialist direction of running a school, implements the fundamental task of Lide’s cultivation of people, based on the positioning of characteristic applied research universities, upholds the school motto of "unifying the body and mind, and having both competition and climbing", and takes talent training and knowledge innovation as its own responsibility to carry "development". The glorious mission of playing sports, enhancing the people’s physical fitness, and promoting sports culture" implements the fundamental concept of "for the life-long development of teachers and students" and the school-running ideas of "unifying body and mind, combining morals and skills, learning both arts and sciences, and serving the society". Efforts will be made to build a training base for competitive sports talents and applied research sports talents, a training base for specialized teachers, and a demonstration base for sports international cooperation in running schools. Efforts will be made to build the school into a world-class sports university rooted in the land of China, and become a talent pool, think tank, wisdom brain, and a source of Chinese sports culture to support the development of sports and higher education in China.
There are more than 450 full-time teachers and more than 6,000 students in the school; it covers an area of more than 600 acres and the school building area exceeds 350,000 square meters. Shanghai Institute of Physical Education is one of the first batch of doctoral degree awarding units in my country's sports colleges (1986). It adheres to the policy of "equal importance to characteristics and quality, and mutual promotion of discipline construction and talent training". There are four second-level doctoral authorization points in physical education, namely, sports humanities and sociology, sports human science, traditional national sports, and physical education and training. At the same time, there are 3 second-level doctoral authorization points in physical education. Discipline doctoral programs (sports management, sports engineering, sports rehabilitation); physical education, psychology, medical technology, journalism and communication 4 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, and also has sports, public management, art, journalism and communication 4 professional master degree authorization points.
The school has a group of famous scholars, famous coaches and referees, including foreign academicians of the National Academy of Sports Sciences, "Changjiang Scholars" Distinguished Professors of the Ministry of Education, Shanghai "Oriental Scholars" Distinguished Professors, senior officials of international sports organizations, senior coaches of national sports teams, and international Sports organization referee training senior lecturers, etc. The school sports health science teacher team was named the first batch of "National University Huang Danian Teacher Team" by the Ministry of Education in 2017. In recent years, the school has won many national and Shanghai teaching achievement awards; over the years, it has trained a group of internationally renowned coaches, such as Shi Zhihao, Sun Haiping, Chen Zhonghe, Wang Yuefang, Sun Lian, Shen Fulin, Ma Liangxing, etc.
In recent years, the school has won 3 National Science and Technology Progress Awards. At present, 13 provincial and ministerial key laboratories (bases) have been established. In 2017, with the approval of the State Council, the Shanghai Laboratory for Doping Testing, jointly established by the State Sports General Administration and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, started construction.
In recent years, the school has focused on connotation and characteristic development, and has formed a number of unique landmark achievements. Take the lead in establishing the world’s only higher education institution specializing in table tennis, the China Table Tennis Academy, and was recognized by the ITTF as the highest college-level affiliated training base; the only national sports university science park in China; the world’s first A museum displaying the history and culture of martial arts-the Chinese Martial Arts Museum; the only English sports academic journal in mainland China that is simultaneously included in the SCI and SSCI databases, and the national "Top 100 Journals"-"Sports and Health Science" magazine; Take the lead in introducing the ITTF Museum and the Chinese Table Tennis Museum established by the International Sports Organization; take the lead in establishing a training model for top-notch sports talents-"Yunrui Academy". Co-established the International Handball Academy and the IAAF Special Training Certification Center with the International Handball Federation and the IAAF; and jointly established the Basketball Academy, the Marathon Academy and the Triathlon Academy with the Chinese Basketball Association, the Chinese Athletic Association and the Chinese Triathlon Association. The school is "the national high-level sports reserve talent base", and the national middle and long-distance running youth team settled in our school.
Shanghai Sport University is a Chinese government scholarship qualification school and a pilot institution designated by the Ministry of Education to independently recruit Chinese government scholarship international students. The school has established cooperative relationships with more than 70 universities and institutions in 25 countries and regions, and trained more than those from the United States and France. , Germany, Japan, South Korea and more than 1,000 international students from more than 60 countries or regions. The school cooperated with Luxembourg to establish the European branch of the China Table Tennis Academy, and cooperated with the Macau Polytechnic Institute to hold an overseas master's degree program in sports.
