Shanghai University of Commerce is a publicly-run applied undergraduate college with distinctive business characteristics. Its predecessor was the East China Branch of the Central Taxation School established in 1950. The school currently has three campuses on Fengpu, Xuhui, and Guoquan Road, and one school site on Fuzhou Road, with nearly 10,000 full-time students. There are 10 secondary colleges, 28 general undergraduate majors, 2 Chinese-foreign cooperative education majors, and 2 general college majors are enrolled in 2021. The school focuses on the construction of applied faculty and empowers the cultivation of high-quality applied business talents. There are nearly 800 faculty members, including nearly 500 full-time teachers. 1 person enjoys the special allowance of the State Council, 2 members of the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Steering Committee, 1 "Shanghai Leading Talent", and 10 Shanghai Famous Teaching Teachers and Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Awards. There are 64 industry-university cooperative education projects of the Ministry of Education, and a national experimental teaching demonstration center. The overall employment rate of graduates has stabilized at over 98%, ranking among the top universities in Shanghai.
The school continues to deepen the connotation of the construction of the chemistry department, develops a comprehensive strategic cooperation with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, accelerates the construction of a special zone of disciplines, and focuses on building a business science system with applied economics and business management as the main body and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. Applied Economics is Shanghai's Class II Plateau Discipline, Business Communication is a Key Discipline of the Municipal Education Commission, and Business Administration is selected as a first-class discipline (B) Cultivation Plan for Shanghai Universities. In the past five years, he has won more than 70 scientific research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including the National Social Science Foundation, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, and 15 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards including the Shanghai Decision Consulting Research Achievement Award.
The school focuses on national and local strategic needs and major industry needs, deepens comprehensive strategic cooperation with the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and conducts high-quality commercial (business) applied research and consulting services. It has municipal scientific research bases and platforms such as Shanghai Institute of Business Development, Shanghai University Think Tank, Shanghai Social Science Innovation Research Base, Shanghai University Humanities and Social Science Key Research Base, Shanghai University Knowledge Service Platform, etc. In the past five years, 67 decision-making consultation results have been approved by provincial and ministerial leaders, presided over and participated in the formulation of industry standards such as logistics and tourism. The Ministry of Commerce's business officials training base established by the school has trained more than 4,400 business officials from more than 100 countries (regions).
The school insists on opening up schools to enhance its international reputation and influence in an all-round way. Introduce high-quality business education resources, carry out strategic cooperation with Swiss Lausanne Hotel Management School, Hengshan Group, etc., and promote the construction of a first-class domestic and world-renowned hotel management school. It has successively carried out cooperation and exchanges with more than 90 universities and research institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and other countries and regions, initiated the establishment of the "Belt and Road" International Business Education Alliance, established an international high-end think tank alliance, and established an overseas education base in Central and Eastern Europe.
The school pays attention to the inheritance of traditional commercial culture and the cultivation of core socialist values. It has built the China Commercial Culture Exhibition Hall and the Shanghai School of Commercial Culture Research Institute. It produces "Shanghai Commercial Century", "Retail Century", "Trade Century" and other commercial feature films, and undertook "Chinese Poetry" Conference" (Seasons 2 and 3) Interview selection activities in Shanghai Division.
