Shanghai Electric Power University is a full-time general institution of higher learning jointly established by the Central Government and Shanghai Municipality and focusing on Shanghai Administration. The school was founded in 1951 and was upgraded to an undergraduate degree in January 1985 and was renamed Shanghai Electric Power University. In December 2018, it was renamed Shanghai Electric Power University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The school has two campuses in Yangpu and Pudong, with more than 12,000 full-time students and more than 1,000 faculty members.

School history


The school was founded in 1951 and has long been under the management of the national electric power department. In 2000, it was managed locally. The school has gone through the development and evolution of Shanghai Electric Power School, Shanghai Power School, Shanghai Electric Power School, Shanghai Electric Power College, and Shanghai Electric Power University. It started to run undergraduate level in 1985, master level in 2006, and became a doctorate award in 2018. The unit has formed a complete degree authorization system for bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. In 2018, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was renamed Shanghai Electric Power University. In 2019, our school was approved as a pilot unit for the construction of high-level local application-oriented universities in Shanghai, supporting our school to focus on clean and safe power generation, smart grid, and smart energy management with the characteristics of energy and power, and to carry out high-level local applications as a whole Pilot construction of high-level universities.
