The predecessor of Shanghai Customs College was Shanghai Customs School founded in 1953; in May 1980, it was upgraded to Shanghai Customs College with the approval of the State Council; in April 1996, the former State Education Commission approved the college to change its name to Shanghai Customs College; 2007 In March, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Customs College was established as a new full-time general higher education institution. The school now has five teaching departments (departments): customs management, economics and business administration, law, foreign languages, and basics (ideological and political theory); customs management, logistics management (port logistics direction), Auditing, international business (international customs affairs direction), taxation, law (related law direction), English (business application direction) and 7 undergraduate majors and taxation master degree programs, covering management, economics, law, 4 disciplines including literature. Among them, the customs management major is an ad hoc major for national control, and the law and taxation majors are the second and third batches of the Ministry of Education's special professional construction sites. There are currently 2,213 full-time students, including 2,137 undergraduates and 76 postgraduates.


  The main task of the school is to base itself on the customs and face the society, and cultivate applied, compound, and foreign-related high-quality customs management professionals that meet the needs of customs and economic and social development, as well as foreign economic and trade professionals who serve port logistics and international business. And actively carry out customs theoretical research and international exchanges. The school also undertakes the tasks of continuing education, knowledge update and business training for middle and senior officials in the customs system; and according to the division of labor of the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the requirements of countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific region, it will gradually undertake the task of training customs personnel in the region and perform corresponding tasks.    There are 151 full-time teachers in the school, including 16 professors and 48 associate professors. The proportion of teachers with senior professional and technical positions is 42.4%. There are 65 teachers with a doctoral degree and 71 teachers with a master's degree. The proportion of teachers with a postgraduate degree is 90.1%. The structure of the teaching staff is reasonable, and the teaching and research level is relatively high. The school has a customs management institute and research centers on customs law, customs risk management, tariffs, customs public relations, customs declaration, etc., which closely integrates customs reform and development and bilateral, multilateral, and regional customs international cooperation facing hot and difficult issues to carry out scientific research . In 2009, the school was approved to establish the Shanghai Social Science Innovation Research Base and the Shanghai Development Strategy Institute Studio.
