Shanghai Lixin Accounting and Finance College is a public full-time general higher education institution with distinctive accounting and financial characteristics. It was formed by the merger of the former Shanghai Lixin Accounting Institute and the former Shanghai Finance Institute in June 2016. The name "Lixin" is derived from "The Analects of Confucius", "The people can not stand without credibility". The school's origin can be traced back to the Lixin education enterprise founded in 1928 by the famous educator, accountant, and "Father of Modern Chinese Accounting" Mr. Pan Xulun . In 2011, the school obtained the qualification for training master's degree in auditing. In the history of more than 90 years, the school has been praised by the industry as one of the birthplaces of modern accounting education in China and the cradle of future financiers. In December 2018, the school was listed as a pilot university for the construction of high-level local applied universities in Shanghai.
The school has three campuses in Pudong, Songjiang and Xuhui, covering an area of more than 1,200 acres. In December 2019, the construction of the Pudong New Campus started smoothly. There are 18,410 full-time students, including 243 professional master's students. The employment situation of students is good, and it was rated as "National Graduate Employment Model Experience College" by the Ministry of Education. In September 2019, the affiliated school of Shanghai Lixin Accounting and Finance College was officially inaugurated.

Business administration is listed as a class I plateau subject in Shanghai universities, and applied economics is listed as a class II plateau subject in Shanghai universities. The "Accounting and Economic Research" published and publicly issued by the school was selected as the source journal of CSSCI.
The school has distinctive disciplines and majors, with 15 secondary colleges in total. There are currently 37 undergraduate majors. It has 2 national-level specialty majors in accounting and finance, 1 national-level talent training model innovation experimental zone for accounting, 6 national-level accounting, auditing, finance, financial engineering, international economics and trade, and applied statistics. First-class professional construction sites, four municipal-level first-class professional construction sites for taxation, economics, insurance, and logistics management, three major comprehensive reform pilot programs in Shanghai for finance, taxation, and public finance, financial management, marketing, etc. There are 13 Shanghai applied undergraduate pilot majors in colleges and universities. Among them, the school cooperates with the New Jersey Institute of Technology in the United States to develop a Sino-foreign cooperative education program for undergraduates in financial engineering (finan technology), cooperates with EU universities to develop the Erasmus+ program, and cooperates with the Danish IBA International Business School to organize a Confucius Institute.
