Established in 1956, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the first Chinese higher education institutions established by the country after the birth of New China. The school's medical scale and medical service capabilities have been continuously improved. There are 9 affiliated hospitals covering all tertiary Chinese medicine and integrated Chinese and Western medicine hospitals in Shanghai. The affiliated hospital has a total of nearly 8,000 beds and serves more than 19 million patients from all over the world every year. Affiliated hospitals lead the country in comprehensive service capabilities. In 2018 and 2019, many hospitals won the first and second third-tier hospitals of traditional Chinese medicine and third-tier hospitals of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in the performance evaluation of national public tertiary hospitals in 2018 and 2019.
