Hohhot Vocational College is a full-time general institution of higher learning approved by the People's Government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is also the only institution of higher learning under the Hohhot Municipal Government. The history of the college can be traced back to Guisui School in 1907. Vocational education has also gone through more than 50 years. It is the cradle of talents for economic and social development in Hohhot and Inner Mongolia.
The college covers a total area of 1,780 acres, with a total construction area of 634,800 square meters, and nearly 15,000 full-time students; it has 14 secondary colleges, 2 teaching departments, 3 teaching assistant departments and 2 research institutes. There are 747 full-time teachers, including 299 teachers with a master's degree, 22 with a doctoral degree, and 8 foreign experts. Among the full-time teachers, 305 have senior professional titles and 468 are dual-qualified teachers.
Professionals cover 13 major categories, including culture and education, finance, manufacturing, tourism management, food, biochemical drugs, electronic information, transportation, art design media, civil engineering, environmental protection, agriculture, and justice, with a total of 58 categories. Among them, there are 13 key construction majors, 9 autonomous regional brand majors, 1 autonomous regional key construction major; 5 undergraduate majors jointly run with colleges and universities in the region, and 7 majors in cooperation with Belarus.
The college always adheres to the school-running positioning of "based on the capital, leading the entire region, adapting to the market, serving students, and cultivating skilled talents with strong professional abilities, high overall quality, and great development potential", actively exploring the school-enterprise cooperation mechanism, and constantly improving "posts" The talent training model of “equal emphasis on ability and comprehensive quality, combined with work and learning” has established 198 on-campus internship training bases, including 4 national-level training bases supported by the central government, 1 autonomous region-level demonstration base, and productive practice. There are 4 training bases and 157 stable off-campus training bases. The school has a national vocational skill appraisal institute, which can carry out junior, middle and high-level vocational skill appraisal for more than 20 general types of work. Since the introduction of the credit system and the "dual certificate" system, the average rate of students obtaining skills certificates has been 89%. In 2013, the college was awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Employment Unit in the Region" by the People's Government of the Autonomous Region.
Chen Baosheng, Minister of Education, when he visited the school on March 25, 2017, spoke highly of the school’s performance and wrote an inscription: Celebrating the 100th birthday, and then showcasing his ambitions.
