Inner Mongolia Agricultural University is a key university in the autonomous region and one of the first batch of 32 college students' cultural quality education bases in the country. Inner Mongolia Agricultural University is the earliest undergraduate higher education institution established in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It was formed by the merger of the former Inner Mongolia Agricultural and Animal Husbandry College and Inner Mongolia Forestry College in 1999. Tracing back to its roots, in 1952, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of the former Hebei Agricultural College and Plains Agricultural College and the veterinary specialty of Shanxi Agricultural College moved to Hohhot, and the first undergraduate college in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region-Inner Mongolia College of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine was established. In 1960, Inner Mongolia College of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine was renamed Inner Mongolia College of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. The school is a multidisciplinary university with 8 disciplines including agriculture, engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, and art, with the main characteristics of agriculture and grassland animal husbandry. The school now has 22 colleges (departments) including the College of Animal Science, and the Vocational and Technical College is the construction unit of the National Higher Vocational Education Demonstration College.
