Inner Mongolia University

Historical evolution: Inner Mongolia University is located in Hohhot, the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and a famous historical and cultural city. It is more than 400 kilometers away from Beijing. It is the first comprehensive university established by the party and the state in ethnic minority areas after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The school was founded at a high starting point in 1957. The then Vice Premier of the State Council and Chairman of the Autonomous Region Ulanhu served as the first president (1956-1968). Yu Beichen, the former deputy director of the Comprehensive University Department of the Ministry of Higher Education, served as the vice president, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a well-known biologist, Mr. Li Jitong, a first-class professor of Peking University and a doctor of Yale University, came to the school to teach and served as the academic vice president. The party and the government selected a group of well-known academic leaders and academic backbones from more than a dozen well-known domestic universities such as Peking University to form a high-level faculty team at the beginning of the school’s establishment, bringing the long-established academic tradition and lofty university spirit of prestigious universities to serve the school. The follow-up development has laid a solid foundation for running a school and an excellent school spirit.


The school enrolled postgraduates in 1962. It was designated as a national key university in 1978. It was granted the right to grant doctorate degrees in 1984. It was approved as a key construction institution of the “211 Project” in 1997. In 2004, it became the People’s Government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Ministry of Education. The university was jointly established by the provinces and the ministry. In 2012, it was selected as a university in the National "Middle and Western Universities to Enhance Comprehensive Strength Plan" ("One Province, One School"). In 2016, it became a first-class university construction support university in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 2018, it became a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.


[Institutions, Disciplines and Majors] The school is composed of the school headquarters, the School of Transportation, and the Manzhouli College. There is also an independent college-Entrepreneurship College. The school has 21 colleges.


The school's disciplines cover 11 university disciplines of philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, management, and art. It has 2 national key disciplines of Chinese minority language and literature, and zoology, ecology Study 1 national key cultivation discipline; there are 18 autonomous region key disciplines and 8 autonomous region key cultivation disciplines.
