Russian version of Language Situation in China released

A book launch for the Russian version of Language Situation in China (Language Policies) was held at the Beijing Language and Culture University on July 5, 2021, which coincided with the 20th anniversary of the signing of China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. Representatives from the Ministry of Education, Beijing Language and Culture University, Saint Petersburg State University and the Commercial Press attended the event in person or online.

The report was jointly compiled and translated by Beijing Language and Culture University and Saint Petersburg State University. It offers Russian readers an informative overview of China’s language policies, language preservation, languages used in specific areas, and dictionary compilations.

The rector of Saint Petersburg State University Nikolai Kropachev commended the report and wrote a foreword for it. He said this publication was a successful example of people-to-people cultural exchange. He hoped that China and Russia would continue to co-build a multi-leveled model for language and cultural cooperation and dissemination in this new era.

The State Language Commission began publishing foreign language versions of Language Situation in China in 2013, with a view to make China’s voice better heard in the world. To date, the report has been published in English, Korean, Japanese and Russian.
