MOE meets with Graduate Employment Committee to discuss smoothing transition of fresh graduates into jobs

On May 17, the Ministry of Education (MOE) held the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee on Employment and Entrepreneurship for College Graduates and the launching ceremony of the 2021 Employment Promotion Week for College Graduates in Beijing. Minister of Education Chen Baosheng attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Vice Minister of Education Weng Tiehui presided over the meeting.

The minister noted that the central government and State Council were making the employment of college graduates a priority. He urged educational departments to be fully aware of the important role of employment of college graduates in people"s livelihoods, social development and education. He encouraged all stakeholders - governments, universities, businesses and industry associations - to work together to create a favorable environment for new graduates.

He recalled that since 2012, following the improvement of the policy system to promote employment, the job market for college graduated had been expanding, making positive contributions to the nation’s quality economic and social development. Noting that more graduates would join the workforce during the 2021-2025 period, he pledged that the existing employment mechanisms would be further improved to address these new challenges, and help graduates find their desired jobs more effectively. The minister required that the Steering Committee build its capacity to better fulfil its functions, which included providing employment-related advice to decision-makers and creating linkages between college graduates and employers. He also urged HEIs to create the best possible conditions for graduates to make a smooth transition to the job market.

The Steering Committee is an expert organization under the Ministry of Education composed of experts from the government, universities and employers. Mandated to guide the employment and entrepreneurship of college graduates, its major functions include providing policy consultation, employment guidance, outreach to employers, evaluation and supervision.
