To help secure employment for the 2021 graduates, the Ministry of Education (the MOE) has taken the lead to organize 40 job fairs since September 1, 2020, offering a total of 3.42 million job vacancies.
Among them, a job fair held in Guangdong Province offered 900,000 postings, and the five job fairs held in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta area and the Chengdu-Chongqing region offered 320,000 job vacancies. In Hubei Province, one of the most affected areas by COVID-19 in China, a job fair was held to help revive the local economy, offering 500,000 jobs.
Working closely with many specialized agencies and institutions, the MOE also hosted a series of job fairs focusing on different areas. For example, a job fair seeking for national defense processionals was held jointly with China Center for Aerospace Science and Technology International Communications, which offered 12,000 job vacancies. Another job fair was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, which offered 17,000 job openings from national-level economic and technological development zones.
In the healthcare area, 3 job fairs were held in cooperation with National Health Commission, providing 94,000 job vacancies. 6 job fairs were held in joint effort with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and State Post Bureau, offering 426,000 job vacancies from small and medium-sized enterprises and the postal and parcel industry.
In terms of state-owned enterprises, 589,000 job vacancies were offered in a job fair co-organized with State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and China Media Group. 193,000 job vacancies were offered in five job fairs jointly hosted with leading state-owned enterprises such as Sinopec Group and Bank of China. More than 2,500 openings at the Chinese Academy of Sciences system were provided in two job fairs hosted in collaboration with the Center for Talent Exchanges of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
A sharing mechanism was established among Chinese HEIs. A job fair geared especially for HEIs in less-developed central and western regions of China was held, which attracted more than 800 employers, including China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, Shanghai Construction Group, China First Metallurgical Group, and Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group, and provided over 90,000 postings. 151 HEIs including Tianjin University, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) and Tongji University co-organized 5 job fairs focusing on the industries of chemistry and chemical engineering, natural resources and civil engineering, offering 310,000 job vacancies. A job fair open to agricultural professionals was held in association with the China Agricultural University and Zhejiang University, offering 30,000 job openings. A job fair aiming at education professionals was co-hosted with 7 normal universities including Beijing Normal University and Northeast Normal University, offering nearly 50,000 job vacancies. A job fair dedicated to art professionals was held in joint effort with 19 universities like Central Academy of Fine Arts and Communication University of China, offering over 10,000 job vacancies. 5 job fairs were held specializing in the industries of chemistry and chemical engineering, natural resources and civil engineering, providing 310,000 postings.
In order to help alleviate poverty, a job fair opening to HEI graduates from the less-developed areas such as Tibet, Qinghai and Xinjiang was launched, offering 6,000 job vacancies in central government-managed enterprises. Among them, a quota of vacancies was reserved for graduates from ethnic minority groups and registered poor families. A job fair dedicated to graduates from ethnic minority groups was jointly held by 33 HEIs, including Minzu University of China, offering 70,000 postings.
So far, steady progress has been made in the employment of 2021 graduates. The employment rate for this year is higher than that of 2020, and remained very much the same as that of 2019. Students majoring in resource and power, equipment manufacturing, transportation, postal and parcel are more employable, showing that the country has a strong demand for professionals in these areas. The MOE will continue to implement targeted and efficient measures to improve employment of the 2021 graduates.
