MOE plans health education for students and teachers in China

The MOE has issued a notice on organizing a series of health education activities under the theme “Healthy Students and Teachers, Healthy China”. The activities are planned as part of the effort to implement instructions from the National Education Conference and requirements set out in the Outline of the “Healthy China 2030” Plan.

The notice requires that educational institutions incorporate health education into their work agendas, identifying key areas of work, objectives to be achieved and lines of responsibility.

According to the notice, the major areas of health education should include unrelenting covid-19 prevention efforts, comprehensive plans for the prevention and control of myopia in children and adolescents, disease prevention, on-campus first aid, adequate class hours on health knowledge, and general and specialized sports skills.

The notice requires that schools promote balanced, nutritious diets, strengthen food safety management, provide students with psychological counselling and offer advice about skills to cope with mental and psychological stress. Other priority areas of work include raising awareness for preventing and controlling infectious diseases, obesity and abnormal spinal curvature among students; and implementing waste separation, to create clean, tidy, hygienic and healthy campuses.
