Weng Tiehui proposes further mobilization of market mechanisms and social support to promote graduate employment

Vice Minister of Education and member of the MOE’s Party Leadership Group Weng Tiehui recently held face-to-face discussions with five job-hunting website companies participating in the MOE’s 24365 Campus Recruitment Service Campaign, including 51Job, Zhaopin.com, Boss Zhipin, ChinaHR, and Liepin.com. The talks with the companies’ executives aimed to gain insights into the current employment situation for 2020 higher education graduates.

Weng pointed out that this year’s graduates faced unprecedented pressure to find a job due to the COVID-19 outbreak. She expressed hope that employment agencies would further mobilize market mechanisms and social support to build an effective long-term cooperation framework helping graduates enter the job market as soon as possible.

Stressing the vital importance of employment for both national well-being and people’s livelihoods, she expected job-search service providers to open up more new channels for employment, engage further in the 24365 Campus Recruitment Service Campaign, and gather more targeted job opening information for HEI graduates. Weng also underlined that these companies needed to provide employment guidance to graduates to help them adapt to different career opportunities, and provide analysis and reports regularly to keep the government updated with the latest industry news or market trends. In addition, they were expected to conduct surveys keeping track of the status of graduate employment and job quality, providing valuable feedback for HEIs to improve and reform their disciplinary subjects and training models.

Weng stated that the thrust of the MOE’s employment promotion this year should be assisting graduates from 52 poverty-stricken counties, hoping that the job-hunting website companies would create employment opportunities for these students by exploring new channels and providing targeted and customized services.
