Chen Baosheng visits Beijing schools to inspect reopening preparations

In Beijing, 9th and 12th grade students will return to school on April 27 as the coronavirus epidemic in the city subsides. On the day before the school reopening, Minister of Education Chen Baosheng visited two schools in Beijing to ensure that proper preventive measures were in place to ensure the safety of staff and students.

During the visit, Chen highlighted the effective measures that had been put in place to contain the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) throughout the country, and said the orderly reopening of schools was an important sign that people’s lives were going back to normal.

He also reiterated the action taken by the Ministry of Education early on in the COVID-19 outbreak to suspend schools, and implement various measures to allow over 200 million students across the country to study at home via online courses. He emphasized the remarkable and unprecedented nature of this undertaking. Finally, he called on all relevant parties to take the current situation as an opportunity to earn experience in online education, prepare a streamlined transition between online and offline teaching, provide adequate mental health assistance to students, and offer sufficient help to vulnerable groups.
