MOE suspends approval of mainland students’ application for further study in Taiwan

The head of the MOE’s Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs recently stated in an interview that, considering the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and current cross-straits relations, the MOE would suspend all work involving the dispatch of mainland graduates at schools of all levels to pursue their further education in Taiwan for the rest of the year. It was noted however that Mainland students already studying at universities in Taiwan could continue their courses of study to pursue higher degrees there as they wished. Currently, the most urgent task for the ministry was to safeguard the rights and interests of mainland students currently registered to study at university in Taiwan but denied entry to the island.

The statement also stated that admission policies of mainland universities for Taiwanese students would remain unchanged for 2020 and that relevant information had been published on the website dedicated to mainland university admissions for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students.
