Chinese Society of Education celebrates 40th anniversary in Beijing

On December 6, the Chinese Society of Education (CSE) met in Beijing to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Minister of Education Chen Baosheng attended the celebration meeting and delivered a speech.

The minister fully acknowledged the role played by the CSE, one of China’s most inclusive and earliest academic societies dedicated to educational progress, in advancing the country’s basic educational reforms. He commended the CES for fully implementing the Party’s educational guidelines and providing educational decision-makers with constructive advice in the interest of China’s educational progress over its 4 decades of existence.

Chen urged the CES to don a fresh role as a leading educational think tank, building on its rich heritage and strengths in order to make new contributions to reflect the new era of Xi Jinping Thought. He proposed a four-point roadmap for the CES to achieve this goal. First, to put a political orientation well-aligned with the Party at the heart of guiding primary and secondary schools in implementing the Party’s educational guidelines. Second, to establish a service-oriented approach which is needed to continue implementing guidelines emanating from the National Education Conference and the National Basic Education Work Conference. Third, to build on its academic strengths in order to stay competitive. Fourth, to maintain momentum in party organization, institutional and human resources capacity-building, in order to build a modern governance system.

At the 3rd session of the 8th CES council, held immediately before the celebration meeting, former vice minister of education Zhu Zhiwen was elected as president for the new term.

Incumbent CES president Du Yubo, CEAIE president Liu Limin and the director of Beijing Municipal Commission of Education Liu Yuhui delivered congratulatory speeches at the meeting.
