Hebei University is a key comprehensive university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Hebei Province, the People's Government of Hebei Province and the State Administration of Defense Technology Industry.
School was founded in 1921, first named Tianjin Technology and Business University, founded by the French Catholic Jesuits, and the school site is located at No. 141, Machang Road, Tianjin. In 1933, the school was renamed Tianjin Institute of Business and Technology because it was not as large as a university. In 1948, it was renamed Jingu University after it had 3 colleges and 10 departments. In 1951, the Central People's Government took over Jingu University and changed it to a national institution. Under the leadership of the Tianjin Municipal Government, the school ushered in a new historical era and built a scale of 3 colleges and 13 departments. In 1952, the Central People’s Government adjusted the layout and faculties of colleges and universities across the country. The School of Engineering and the School of Finance and Economics of Jingu University were merged into Tianjin University and Nankai University respectively. Based on the Normal College, Tianjin Normal University was established on the original site and continued. The history of Hebei University has grown from 6 departments to 9 departments within a few years. In 1958, Tianjin Normal University was expanded into Tianjin Normal University, and it was later identified as one of the five key universities in the province. In 1960, Tianjin Normal University was transformed into a comprehensive university and named Hebei University. In 1970, Hebei University moved from Tianjin to Baoding, Hebei Province, a national historical and cultural city. In 2000, Hebei Technical Supervision School① merged into Hebei University. In 2005, Hebei Medical College for Workers ② and its affiliated hospital ③ were merged into Hebei University.
The school occupies an area of 2,430 acres, with a headquarters, a new campus, and a medical department. It has a building area of 1.33 million square meters and a total fixed asset value of 3.2 billion yuan. There are 15 first-level discipline doctoral programs; 46 first-level discipline master programs, 26 types of master's professional degree authorization, 11 engineering master's professional degree fields, and 94 undergraduate majors. ①Hebei Technical Supervision School was founded in 1984 and is affiliated to the Hebei Technical Supervision Bureau. ②Hebei Medical College for Staff and Workers was founded in 1949. It was originally named the Pingyuan Provincial Medical School. After the revocation of the Pingyuan Provincial Organizational System, the relocation of the school site, and the merger of Tongzhou Doctors and Baoding Health School, it was named Baoding Medical School in 1958 and renamed in 1959. It is Baoding Medical College. From 1965 to 1981, it was renamed several times. In 1983, it was transformed into the Hebei Medical College for Staff and Workers and officially entered the ranks of higher education institutions. In December 2002, Baoding Health School, Hebei Traditional Chinese Medicine School, and Baoding Economic Management Cadre School were merged. At the end of 2004, Hebei Province approved the merger of the hospital and its affiliated hospitals into Hebei University. ③The Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University was founded in 1909 as an epidemic prevention hospital. In 1912, it was changed to Zhili Provincial Red Cross Hospital. In 1942, it was renamed Xinmin Hospital of Hebei Province. In 1945, it was changed to Hebei Provincial Hospital. After liberation, it was successively renamed the First People's Hospital of Hebei Province and Hebei Provincial Hospital. In 1983, it was changed to the Affiliated Hospital of Hebei Medical College for Staff and Workers. In 2005, it belonged to Hebei University and was renamed as the Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University.
