Hebei Vocational College of Art is the only state-run full-time comprehensive higher art college in Hebei Province, founded in 1955. After the development stages of Hebei Opera School, Hebei Drama School, Hebei Art School, etc., it was upgraded to a higher vocational college approved by the Hebei Provincial Government in 2001. In the history of more than 60 years of running a school, the college has rooted in the fertile soil of Yanzhao culture, nurtured and inherited the Heyi spirit of "loving children as children, loving school as home, and loving art as fate", forming a unique school-running tradition and school-running characteristics. The college has been successively evaluated as "Provincial and Ministerial Key Ordinary Secondary Professional Art School", "Provincial Civilized Unit", and "National Advanced Collective for Cultural Work". The college is the dissemination base of intangible cultural heritage in Hebei Province and the only national vocational skill appraisal test center in the cultural industry in the province.
The college is located in Qingyuan Street, Shijiazhuang City. There are more than 3,000 full-time students and more than 300 faculty members, of which 204 are full-time teachers and 80 have titles of associate professor or higher. In addition, a large number of famous art artists such as Yu Kuizhi, Li Shengsu, Yu Wenhua, Liang Zhaojin, Yu Lina, and Wang Shaojun have been employed as visiting professors of the college.
The college organizes art education at higher vocational and technical secondary school levels. It has professional departments such as drama, music, dance, fine arts, art education, film and television, media, cultural management, and basic teaching departments, social education departments, and technical secondary schools. There are 37 college majors (including direction) and 5 technical secondary school admissions majors. Among them, music performance (vocal music direction) is a provincial demonstration major in Hebei Province, and courses such as Hebei folk dance, vocal music performance, landscape painting techniques, teacher dance skills, career development and employment guidance are provincial-level boutique courses in Hebei Province. The Department of Dance has the first national dance training base supported by the central government in Hebei Province. Two "Central Finance Support Professional Service Industry Development Capacity Building Projects", majoring in film and television advertising and major in fine arts (stage art direction), passed the inspection and acceptance of the expert group.
In the course of running the school, the college has gathered famous teachers and has achieved remarkable results in educating people. A large number of famous artists such as Song Dezhu, Jia Guilan, Liu Xiangyu, Qi Lanqiu, Zhou Shutang, Wang Huaiqi, Zhang Rongpei, Jin Xueqin, Luo Huilan, Qian Haoliang, Ma Zixing, Xiao Yuezhu, Yang Zhenghua, etc. have taught at the school, and trained Xin Baoda, Li Shengsu, Peng Huiheng, Xu Heying, etc. The 24 winners of the "Plum Blossom Award" for Chinese drama have trained outstanding singers such as Yu Wenhua, Liang Zhaojin, and Yu Lina, and trained a group of artists represented by Wang Shaojun and Zhang Guojun, as represented by Pang Yanqiang and Zhou Daming. Literary theorists, dance educators represented by Yang Yong, Zhang Lijun, and Li Beida, movie stars represented by Zhao Yan Guozhang and Yang Zhigang, and more than 13,000 cultural and artistic talents. Many alumni have become excellent cultural managers and cultural entrepreneurs. The teachers and students of the college actively participate in major cultural activities both inside and outside the province, have been on the stage of CCTV Spring Festival Gala for many years, and have won numerous awards in major national professional competitions.
The college adopts the motto of "Chongqing, Shangyi, Only Beauty and Innovation", closely relying on the cultural industry, and in-depth promotion of school-enterprise cooperation, forming an educating model that promotes practice through teaching and teaches through practice. In the past three years, he has independently created Hebei Bangzi "Meng Jiangnu" and "Sacrifice", and the dance drama "Red Mountain Goddess", which has achieved good response in and outside the province. In 2014, the college launched the talent training “improvement of quality and efficiency” activity. Teachers and students have won successively good results in a number of major national art competitions. The first prize of the National Vocational College Skills Competition, the level and number of awards are among the best among similar colleges in the country. In the past three years, teachers and students have won more than 200 professional competition awards at or above the provincial level.
In December 2013, the college’s first party member conference comprehensively summarized the work in the 12 years of promotion, and clearly stated that it must adhere to the policy of “prospering the school with characteristics, establishing the school with quality, and strengthening the school with talents”, and solidly promote the improvement of education quality.
