Yanshan University is a national key university jointly established by the People's Government of Hebei Province, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Bureau. school originated from Harbin Institute of Technology and was founded in 1920. In 1958, the Department of Heavy Machinery of Harbin Institute of Technology and related majors were relocated to Fulaerji District, Qiqihar City, an important industrial town, and the School of Heavy Machinery of Harbin Institute of Technology was established. In 1960, the school was independently run and named Northeast Heavy Machinery College, which became a university directly under the former Ministry of Machinery Industry. In 1978, it was identified as a national key institution of higher learning. From 1985 to 1997, the school moved south to Qinhuangdao City as a whole. Approved by the former State Education Commission in 1997, it was renamed Yanshan University. In 1998, it was transferred from the former Ministry of Machinery Industry to Hebei Province, implementing joint construction between the central and local governments, and focusing on Hebei Province's management. In 2000, Hebei Light Industry Management School was merged into Yanshan University.
In 2016, as one of the two universities selected by the Ministry of Education, the school’s national certification for engineering has accepted the observation and inspection of international experts from the "Washington Accord", supporting my country's formal entry into the "Washington Accord" international engineering education organization. The school currently has 9 engineering majors that have passed the certification of engineering education, marking that the quality of talent training in these majors has been internationally recognized and entered the "first square" of global engineering education.
The school covers an area of 4000 acres, with a construction area of 1.06 million square meters. There are currently 38,000 students in general higher education.
