The predecessor of Xingtai College was Zhili Fourth Junior Normal School. It was founded in 1910 (the second year of Xuantong) and was one of the first four normal schools established in Zhili Province at that time. After the founding of the Republic of China in 1912, it was renamed Zhili Fourth Primary Normal School. It used to be named Hebei Fourth Normal School and Xingtai Normal School. In 1984, it was upgraded to Xingtai Teachers College; in March 1996, it merged with the former Xingtai Education College and Xingtai Economic Management Cadre School to form Xingtai Teachers College; in 2002, it was upgraded to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education. At present, it is the only university in Hebei Province that has one line of single transmission and continues to build on the original site.
The school has made important contributions to national interests and the prosperity of the country in different periods such as the Revolution of 1911, the National Revolution, the Agrarian Revolution, the War of Resistance against Japan, the War of Liberation and the construction of New China. In May 1925, the Party Branch Committee of the Fourth Division of Zhili Province was established. It was one of the earliest branches of the Communist Party of China established in southern Hebei. After the founding of New China, especially since the reform and opening up, schools have developed rapidly, the conditions for running schools have been improved, and the scale of running schools has expanded rapidly. The graduates of the school cover all fields of work in Xingtai, and have trained a large number of teachers for Xingtai basic education and a batch of specialized talents for local economic and social development. It occupies an important position and plays an important role in Xingtai's education field and even in the economic and social development. In November 2000, Li Lanqing, former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, visited the school; in July 2002, General Chi Haotian, a former member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, visited the school. His achievements were fully affirmed. The school has been rated as a provincial civilized unit for many years.
In recent years, in accordance with the overall idea of “integrating resources, centralizing running schools, getting out of debt dilemmas, and promoting the school to achieve new development in the new era”, the school has seized development opportunities and actively sought support from the Xingtai Municipal Party Committee and Government, and comprehensively strengthened the basics of the campus. At present, the school covers a total area of 943.16 acres (and 758 acres of land reserved for development), with a construction area of 338,800 square meters, and more than 17,000 general undergraduate and junior college students.
