Yenching Institute of Technology is a full-time general higher education institution approved by the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was the North College of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, an outstanding independent college in China. In 2013, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to be transferred to Yenching Institute of Technology. In 2016, it was selected as a master's degree awarding construction unit in Hebei Province. It is the first batch of demonstration universities for transformation and development in Hebei Province.
