Beijing Forestry University

Beijing Forestry University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the State Forestry Administration. The history of the school can be traced back to 1902 in the Agricultural Science and Forestry Program of the Jingshi University Hall. In 1952, the colleges and departments nationwide were adjusted, and the Forestry Department of Beijing Agricultural University merged with the Forestry Department of Hebei Agricultural College to establish Beijing Forestry College. In 1956, the Department of Landscape Architecture of Beijing Agricultural University and the Department of Architecture of Tsinghua University were partly merged into the school. In 1960, it was listed as a national key institution of higher learning, and in 1981 it became the first batch of universities with the right to grant doctorate and master degrees. In 1985, it was renamed Beijing Forestry University. In 1996, it was listed as the first batch of "211 Project" key universities by the state. In 2000, the Ministry of Education approved the trial establishment of the Graduate School, and in 2004 the Graduate School was formally established. In 2005, he obtained the qualification for independent selection of undergraduates. In 2008, the school became a pilot university for the construction of the national "Innovation Platform for Superior Subjects" project. In 2010, it was supported by the Ministry of Education and the State Forestry Administration. In 2011, it participated in the formation of the Beijing High-tech University Alliance with 10 other industry-specific universities. In 2012, it took the lead in establishing China's first collaborative forestry innovation center-the "Efficient Cultivation and Utilization of Forest Resources" Collaborative Innovation Center. In 2016, the school's "High-tech Innovation Center for Forest Tree Molecular Design and Breeding" was selected as the second batch of high-tech innovation centers in Beijing. In 2017, the school was selected into the ranks of world-class discipline construction universities, and the two disciplines of forestry and landscape architecture were shortlisted in the list of "double first-class" construction disciplines.


The school is based on biology and ecology, and features forestry, landscape architecture, forestry engineering, and agricultural and forestry economic management. It is coordinated in multiple disciplines such as agriculture, science, engineering, management, economics, literature, law, philosophy, teaching, and art. National key university for development. The school has 15 colleges, 60 undergraduate majors and directions, 26 first-level discipline master degree authorization points, 1 second-level discipline master degree authorization point, 12 professional master degree categories, and 9 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points , 7 post-doctoral mobile stations, 1 first-level national key discipline (including 7 second-level national key disciplines), 2 second-level national key disciplines, 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 6 State Forestry Administration Key disciplines (level 1), 3 key disciplines of the State Forestry Administration, 3 key disciplines of Beijing (level 1) (including key disciplines), 4 key disciplines of Beijing (level 2), 1 key crossover of Beijing Discipline.


The school has formed a school-running philosophy of "knowing the mountains and water, trees and people", and has trained more than 100,000 senior professionals and a group of foreign students for the country, including a large number of outstanding scientific and technological experts represented by 15 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences.    As of December 2017, the school has 27,657 students, including 13,233 undergraduates, 5,717 full-time postgraduates, 908 on-the-job master’s degrees, and 7,799 continuing education students.    The school attaches great importance to teaching work, implements a tutorial system, a major and minor system, and has a national science base, a national outstanding agricultural and forestry talent training program, Liangxi experimental class, Sino-foreign cooperation in running schools and other top-notch innovative talents and compound talent training models. The school has won 3 first prizes, 6 second prizes, 1 excellence award and 42 provincial and ministerial teaching achievement awards. Five doctoral dissertations were selected as "National Excellent Doctoral Dissertations", and 5 doctoral dissertations were selected as "Beijing Excellent Doctoral Dissertations". 53 graduate students have won gold medals in the International Student Landscape Design Competition of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA-UNESCO), the International University Student Architectural Design Competition, and the China, Japan and South Korea University Student Landscape Design Competition. The employment rate of undergraduates in the past three years has always been above 94%.


   The school's scientific research and technology platform construction is strong and fruitful. There are 42 national and provincial (ministerial) key laboratories, engineering centers and field stations. Among them, 1 National Flower Engineering Technology Research Center, 1 National Forest Tree Breeding Engineering Laboratory, 1 National Field Observation and Scientific Research Station, 1 National Energy Non-food Biomass Raw Material R&D Center, 1 Forestry Biomass Energy International Science and Technology Cooperation Base There are 2 National Soil and Water Conservation Technology Demonstration Parks, 3 Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 3 Engineering Centers of the Ministry of Education, 7 Key Laboratories of the State Forestry Administration, 3 Engineering Technology Research Centers of the State Forestry Administration, and Quality Inspection of the State Forestry Administration 1 center, 6 field observation and research stations of the State Forestry Administration, 1 Beijing laboratory, 8 Beijing key laboratories, and 3 Beijing Engineering Technology Research Centers. Since the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, 3734 papers published as the first author unit have been included in SCI, and 2045 papers have been included in EI. They have undertaken major science and technology projects such as the National Key R&D Program, National Science and Technology Support Program, "863" Program, and National Natural Science Foundation of China. The planned project has received 1.416 billion yuan in scientific research funding.


   The school actively promotes international cooperation and open education, and has successively established cooperative relations in education and science and technology with more than 190 higher education institutions, scientific research institutes and non-governmental organizations in more than 30 countries and regions. Since 2005, it has undertaken the Ministry of Commerce's foreign aid training program every year, and trained a large number of senior management talents and technical backbones in the forestry field of developing countries; held more than 50 international academic conferences, received more than 1,000 foreign experts and scholars, and sent a large number of teachers to exchange abroad Cooperation, implement more than 40 international cooperation projects. Co-organized wood science and engineering and biotechnology cooperation programs with the University of British Columbia in Canada, and carried out multiple joint training programs with universities in the United States, France and other countries. The Office of the Forestry Education Coordination Mechanism in the Asia-Pacific Region was established in the school, building a new platform for the school’s internationalization. In 2016, the school became a member institution of the Silk Road Agricultural Education Technology Innovation Alliance, and actively carried out exchanges and cooperation with universities in countries along the “Belt and Road”. The school actively develops exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and has established partnerships with many universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The school is the Chinese government scholarship, the foreign aid academic program scholarship of the Ministry of Commerce, the Beijing government scholarship, the Beijing “Belt and Road” special scholarship, and the Asia-Pacific Forest Organization scholarship program. At present, there are more than 200 international students from more than 50 countries studying undergraduates, masters, doctoral degrees, and Chinese at the school, of which 98% of them are graduates. As of the end of 2017, the school has trained more than 2,100 foreign students.


   The current campus area of the school headquarters is 696 acres, the school experimental forest farm covers an area of 12480 acres, and the school covers a total area of 13,176 acres. The library has a building area of 23,400 square meters, a collection of 1.881 million books, more than 1.4 million e-books, and 68 types of databases. A digital campus network of "10 Gigabit backbone and part of Gigabit to the desktop" has been built.


   At present, the school is aiming at providing higher education that satisfies the people, further improving the quality of running a school, and striving to become a world-class forestry university rooted in the land of China.
