Capital Institute of Physical Education (formerly Beijing Normal University of Physical Education) is a municipal college in Beijing. It is located in the famous Jimen Yanshu Scenic Area in Beijing, adjacent to Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park.
The college was founded in 1956 and was originally named "Beijing Sports School". In 1960, it was renamed as "Beijing Normal University of Physical Education". In 2000, it was renamed "Capital Institute of Physical Education". In the 49 years since its establishment, the college has made remarkable achievements in various undertakings. At present, the college ranks among the forefront of similar colleges and universities in the country in terms of comprehensive school-running strength, such as school scale, school level, professional settings, faculty, teaching quality, scientific research results, and venue facilities. In 2004, in the "Comprehensive Competitiveness Evaluation Report of Chinese Universities" jointly developed by the Chinese Science Evaluation Research Center, the China Institute of Science and Technology Information of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the China Youth Daily, the comprehensive competitiveness of our college ranked among the top universities in the country. Ranked second, among which "school resources" and "teaching level" rank first among similar colleges and universities in the country. The development of our hospital has always been cared by the party and state leaders. Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Li Ruihuan, Wu Bangguo, Jia Qinglin, Zeng Qinghong, Chen Zhili and other national leaders have inspected our hospital at different times.
The college is divided into two campuses, north and south, covering an area of 233,100 square meters. The campus is equipped with a library, a central laboratory, a computer center, a college student gymnasium, a track and field complex, the first swimming complex, a basketball hall, a volleyball hall, a tennis hall, a martial arts hall, a gymnastics hall, a football field, a plastic track and field field, and the North Campus Large-scale sports facilities such as gymnasiums. In addition to guaranteeing daily teaching and training tasks, various sports venues are open to the society all year round, and actively carry out national fitness exercises, and receive more than 1 million fitness exercisers every year.
The college has initially formed a multi-level, multi-standard, and multi-form schooling pattern. It has set up seven undergraduate majors, including physical education, sports training, sports human science, social sports, traditional national sports, sports management, and sports news, covering All undergraduate majors in the sports majors issued by the Ministry of Education; in addition to cultivating doctoral, master, undergraduate, and technical secondary school students, it also recruits domestic and foreign visiting scholars, graduate degree courses and foreign students. Our school is also one of the two national sports colleges that can accept government scholarships for international students.
The faculty has a reasonable structure and strong strength. It has a high academic level, rich teaching experience, and strong professionalism. Professors and associate professors account for about 51.9% of the total number of teachers. Teachers with a master's degree or above account for 50% of the total number of teachers.
The school is strong in scientific research, undertakes a number of national and ministerial-level projects, and publishes a large number of academic works. The college has established a high-level key laboratory for sports performance evaluation and technical analysis in Beijing, as well as a Beijing sports event management and marketing research base and a pearl ball training base. The college library is one of the members of the Beijing University Network Library. It shares resources with other colleges and universities, and ranks in the leading position of similar colleges and universities in the country in terms of automation, networking, and digital construction. The college is very active in foreign exchanges. It has signed cooperation agreements with more than 20 universities and research institutions in the United States, South Korea, Japan, Finland, Australia, Russia, New Zealand, Belgium, Greece and other countries, and exchanged students and visiting scholars. In order to meet the needs of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, our school has established the "Beijing-Sydney Advanced Sports Talent Training Center" and the Master Class of Sports Event Management in cooperation with the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. Cultivate high-level event management talents for Beijing and the whole country.
Since the establishment of the school, the college has trained more than 20,000 physical education teachers, athletes, coaches, sports management personnel and sports scientific research personnel for Beijing and the whole country. Our students won 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals at the 9th National Games; won 6 gold medals and 2 silver medals at the 2002 Busan Asian Games; won 1 gold medal at the 28th Olympic Games. In the Paralympics, he won a gold medal and a silver medal, and broke a Paralympic record. The school has successively undertaken part of the competition organization work of the Eleventh Asian Games, National Minority Games, and the 21st World University Games, and successfully hosted the 2004 ITTF Professional Tour Finals.
During Beijing’s bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games, our institute successively received the IOC evaluation team member Mr. Bubka, the president of the International Sports Federation Mr. Kirian, the president of FIBA Mr. Molu and the officials of the International Judo Federation to visit the institute. All completed their tasks well and contributed to Beijing's successful bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games.
Our school has formed a high-grade, wide-ranging, not only adhere to the main theme, but also a lively campus culture atmosphere. In 2000, he was awarded the honorable title of "Civilized Campus" by Beijing Municipality. In 2001, he was awarded the "Advanced Unit of Spiritual Civilization of the Capital". For many years, he was named "Garden Unit" and "Advanced Unit of Greening" in Beijing. The whole college strives to establish a good school spirit and style of study, and the student associations are very active. The volunteer team composed of thousands of students from our college performed well in many large-scale cultural and sports activities such as the 50th National Day Ceremony, the 21st World University Games, the ITTF Professional Tour Finals and other large-scale cultural and sports activities.
