Beiwai is the first foreign language college founded by the Communist Party of China. Its predecessor was the Russian Language Brigade of the Third Branch of the China Anti-Japanese Military and Political University established in Yan'an in 1941. It later developed into the Yan'an Foreign Language School. The school was under the leadership of the Party Central Committee. After the founding of New China, the school was under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1954, it was renamed Beijing Foreign Studies University. In 1959, it merged with Beijing Russian Academy to form the new Beijing Foreign Studies University. After 1980, it was directly under the leadership of the Ministry of Education. In 1994, it was officially renamed Beijing Foreign Studies University.
BFSU has been approved to open 101 foreign languages. European and Asian-African languages are currently the largest non-universal language construction bases in my country, and they are the first batch of characteristic specialty construction sites of the Ministry of Education.
