The Central University of Finance and Economics is a university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and Beijing. It is a national "Double First Class" construction, "211 Project" construction and the first batch of "advantaged disciplines innovation platform" project construction universities.


The school was founded on November 6, 1949. At the beginning of its establishment, it was under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance. It has gone through the development stages of the Central Taxation School, the Central School of Finance, the Central School of Finance and the Central School of Finance and Finance. In 1996, it was renamed the Central University of Finance and Economics. The school was transferred from the Ministry of Finance to the direct management of the Ministry of Education. In 2005, it entered the national "211 Project" key construction colleges and universities. The Beijing Municipal People's Government jointly established the university, and in 2017 became the country's "world-class discipline construction university". For a long time, the school has upheld the school motto of "loyalty, unity, truth-seeking, and innovation", inherited the school-running philosophy of "seeking truth and pursuing excellence", formed distinctive school-running characteristics, and trained more than 100,000 for national economic construction and social development. It is known as the "cradle of China's financial management experts".


   The school covers a total area of 1,027,165 square meters, of which the South College Road campus covers an area of 14,1962 square meters, and the Shahe campus covers an area of 789,798 square meters.


   As of December 2017, the school has 1,743 faculty members, including 1,189 full-time teachers. There are 311 professors, accounting for 26.16% of the total number of full-time teachers, 462 associate professors, accounting for 38.86% of the total number of full-time teachers; 856 doctors, accounting for 71.99% of the total number of full-time teachers. The school currently has 15,235 full-time students, including 10054 ordinary undergraduates, 4286 postgraduates, 631 doctoral students, and 264 international students.


  The school has formed a discipline system with economics, management and law as the main subjects, and a coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as literature, philosophy, science, engineering, education, and art. As an important scientific research and innovation base in the field of economics and management in our country, the school gives full play to the role of the "think tank" and "think tank" of national ministries and local government decision-making, providing a strong theoretical guarantee for national economic construction and social development And strong intellectual support. Since the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", the school has undertaken 516 major scientific research projects such as the National Social Science Fund Project, the Natural Science Fund Project, and the Humanities and Social Science Major Projects of the Ministry of Education. Various forums and high-level international seminars organized by the school have had a huge impact at home and abroad.


Entering the new century, in accordance with the new situation of building an innovative country for top-notch innovative talents, the school focuses on the cultivation of students' innovative spirit and practical ability, explores new models of talent training, and establishes a talent training model experimental area to focus on cultivating talents with international perspectives. Innovative talents have achieved good results. In 2006 and 2007, the school successively became the first batch of universities in the Ministry of Education's "National College Student Cultural Quality Education Base" and "National College Student Innovative Experimental Project". In 2010, the school became a national "Financial Application-oriented Innovative Talent Training Model Reform Pilot" institution and the Ministry of Education "Professional Degree Graduate Education Comprehensive Reform Pilot" institution.


   The school implements an international strategy, vigorously develops multi-form and multi-level international exchanges and cooperation, and has established cooperative relationships with 170 units including universities, government agencies, international organizations, and multinational enterprises across the five continents of the world. The three Sino-foreign cooperative education programs sponsored by the school, namely China-Australia, China-U.S., and China-Netherlands, have achieved full coverage of the undergraduate, master, and doctoral level.
