The Academy of Armored Forces Engineering is located by the beautiful Lugou Bridge in Beijing. It is one of the national key engineering colleges and twelve comprehensive colleges in the army. The predecessor of the college was the Armored Forces Engineering Department of "Harbin Military Engineering College". It was expanded to the Armored Forces Engineering College in Xi'an in 1961 and moved to the capital of Beijing in 1969. It is the highest institution of our army to train engineers and command officers of armored mechanized forces.
The college covers an area of more than 3,700 acres, has a modern library and an electronic reading room, and has established online retrieval with large-scale book and reference centers such as the Internet, the Beijing Library and the Headquarters Science and Technology Information Institute. There are nearly 200 laboratories, special training rooms and 7 large professional training fields. The first campus network supported by Gigabit Ethernet in the whole army has been built, and students can connect to the Internet through the campus network.
The college takes undergraduate education as the starting point to train three levels of undergraduates, postgraduates, and doctoral students, and trains both military and civilian students and foreign military students. Mainly for the entire army to train command officers of armored mechanized units and various engineering and technical officers with the qualities of military commanders. The training mode is divided into two categories: 4-year engineering undergraduate and 5-year dual bachelor’s degree. The college currently has 9 undergraduate enrollment majors, 15 master's programs, and 3 doctoral programs. It is one of the very few colleges in the army that can grant master's degrees in the five disciplines of engineering, science, management, military science, and philosophy.
The college has a team of highly qualified and high-level faculty members. In this team, 228 have senior professional and technical positions, 310 have doctorate and master’s degrees, accounting for 58%. Among them are 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 3 national outstanding teachers, 9 military outstanding teachers, and doctoral students. There are 17 mentors and 3 young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions across the country.
According to the general requirements of "political qualification, strong military, good style, strict discipline, and strong support", the college focuses on improving the quality of teaching and continuously optimizing the teaching environment. In recent years, our college students have achieved excellent results in mathematics, physics, English and other discipline competitions in ordinary colleges and universities in Beijing. For more than 40 years, the college has trained nearly 20,000 engineering and technical officers and command officers for our armored mechanized units. These graduate students have become the backbone of the modernization of our armored mechanized units.
