China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing)

China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing) is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, the national "211 Project", "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform Project", and a first-class discipline construction university. It is the first batch of industrial technology innovation strategic alliance universities in the country, and it is also the Ministry of Education. Co-build colleges and universities with the former State Administration of Work Safety. In 1960 and 1978, the school was designated as a national key university twice, and it was one of the first universities in the country with the right to grant doctorate and master degrees, with a graduate school. The school has two campuses: Xueyuan Road campus is located in Xueyuan Road, Haidian District, where many colleges and universities in Beijing, and Shahe campus is located in Shahe Higher Education District, Changping, Beijing.


The predecessor of    School was Jiaozuo Road Mine School, which was founded in 1909 and is located in Jiaozuo, Henan. In 1931, it was renamed the Private Jiaozuo Institute of Technology. In 1938, the school moved westward and jointly established the National Northwest Institute of Technology with Northeastern University, Beiyang University, and Peking University. In 1946, Jiaozuo Institute of Technology resumed its school and moved back to Jiaozuo in 1949. The school moved to Tianjin in 1950 and was renamed the China Institute of Mining and Technology. During the reorganization of schools and departments in 1952, the mining departments of Tianjin University, Tangshan Jiaotong University, and Tsinghua University were adjusted to the China Institute of Mining and Technology. As a result, the school gathered national first-class mining science and technology talents. In 1953, the school moved to Beijing and was renamed Beijing Institute of Mining and Technology. In 1970, the school moved to Hechuan, Sichuan and was renamed Sichuan Institute of Mining and Technology. In 1978, the Beijing Graduate School of China Institute of Mining and Technology was established on the original site of Beijing Xueyuan Road to resume enrollment and training of graduate students; in 1988, the school was renamed China University of Mining and Technology, and Comrade Deng Xiaoping wrote the name of the school. In 1997, the China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing campus) was established; in 1998, the enrollment of undergraduates was resumed; in 2000, the school was transferred to the direct management of the Ministry of Education. In January 2003, the school was run under the name of "China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing)" with the approval of the Central Organization Department. In 1997, the school was identified as a national "211 Project" key construction university, in 2006 it became a "985 Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform Project" construction university, and in 2017 it became a first-class discipline construction university.


   The construction and development of the school has received cordial care from the party and state leaders. Comrade Mao Zedong’s inscription "Develop mining" has inspired generations of mining adults to work tirelessly for the cause; Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally instructed the school to embark on the path of Zhongxing in the reform and opening up; Comrade Jiang Zemin came to the school to inspect the scientific research work of the school and build the school for our school 90th anniversary inscription; Comrade Hu Jintao sent a congratulatory letter for the 100th anniversary of our school. For more than 100 years, the school has developed simultaneously with the process of China's industrialization and has grown together with the People's Republic. Through the hard work of generations of mining adults, the school has created a first-class brand of Chinese coal higher education and a unique spiritual and cultural character, forming a school spirit of "diligence, truth-seeking, enterprising, and dedication", and a style of study of "learning and doing". It has formed an entrepreneurial spirit of hard work and a fighting spirit of facing difficulties.


China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), with the support of higher authorities, the coal energy industry and all sectors of society, through long-term development and construction, has formed a multi-discipline with science and engineering as the main feature, mining and safety as its characteristics, science and engineering, management, law and economics, etc. The coordinated development of the discipline and professional system and the basic structure of a multidisciplinary university. In the exploration, development, utilization of coal energy, resources, environment and production-related mining construction, safety, surveying and mapping, machinery, information technology, ecological restoration, management engineering and other fields have formed superior brands and distinctive features.


The school currently has 63 undergraduate majors, 16 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 34 first-level discipline master programs, 69 second-level discipline doctoral programs, 163 second-level discipline master programs, and 12 master degree authorization categories; 1 There are 1 national key disciplines of first-level disciplines, 8 national key disciplines of second-level disciplines, 1 national key cultivation discipline, 21 provincial and ministerial key disciplines; 14 post-doctoral research stations. In the third round of discipline evaluation conducted by the Ministry of Education in 2012, mining engineering, safety science and engineering, surveying and mapping science and technology, geological resources and geological engineering ranked first, first, third, and fourth respectively. Four disciplines, including engineering, earth sciences, materials science, and chemistry, entered the top 1% of ESI rankings. Two disciplines, including mining engineering, safety science and engineering, were shortlisted for "Double First Class" construction disciplines.


   The school has a high-level faculty, and there are 984 faculty members of various types. Among the full-time teachers, there are 175 professors and 226 associate professors; 168 doctoral supervisors and 230 master supervisors. The proportion of teachers with doctoral degrees is over 83%. Among the faculty, there are 4 "Innovative Team Development Programs" of the Ministry of Education, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 8 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 7 distinguished professors of the "Changjiang Scholars Award Program", and 4 chief scientists of the National 973 Program; 7 people were awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists, 12 people were selected as national candidates for the "New Century Talent Project", 44 people were included in the Ministry of Education's Transcentury and New Century Talent Support Program, and 1 person was awarded the first Chinese Young Scientist Award , 6 people were selected as national and young experts with outstanding contributions, 3 people were selected as national "Ten Thousand Talents Program", 2 people were named "National Excellent Teachers", 16 people were named "Beijing High School Teaching Teachers", 1  people were named "Beijing University Youth Teaching Teachers", 4 people won the National May 1st Labor Medal, 5 people won the Sun Yueqi Energy Award, 17 people won the Sun Yueqi Youth Science and Technology Award, 6 people won the China Youth Science and Technology Award, 15 people Won the Coal Youth Science and Technology Award, and 3 people were named "National Outstanding Postdoctoral Fellows".


   The school always adheres to the education-oriented principle, actively constructs an elite education and teaching system in the energy industry, and is committed to cultivating high-quality talents with comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physical beauty, social responsibility, innovative spirit and practical ability. Many of the graduates have grown into scientific and technological elites, management backbones and leaders in national modernization and industry development. The school has eight majors successively won the national "first-class characteristic professional construction point" project, eight majors have won the special professional project of Beijing Higher Education Institutions, and the "mining engineering" and "safety engineering" majors have passed the engineering education certification of the Ministry of Education. It has 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center and 2 national engineering practice education centers; since 1998, our school students have participated in more than a thousand awards in domestic and foreign science and technology competitions at or above the provincial level; 8 doctoral dissertations have been selected as the national one hundred excellent PhD thesis. At present, the school has 7422 full-time general undergraduates, 7092 masters and doctoral students, 1149 adult education undergraduates and junior college students, and 21 international students.


   Focusing on the core tasks of talent training and the strategic needs of the country and the industry, the school is committed to scientific research, improving the school’s innovation capabilities, and has achieved a large number of high-level scientific and technological achievements. Since the Tenth Five-Year Plan, it has successively won 28 national science and technology awards and 368 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. There are more than 3,500 scientific research projects under research, and research and development funding is growing rapidly. The school has built a complete high-level scientific and technological innovation platform, with 2 national key laboratories, 2 national engineering research centers, 2 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education, and 2 Beijing key laboratories. The school library has a collection of more than 898,000 books and 2.018 million e-books.


   The school actively leverages its own advantages, serves industry talent training, technological advancement and local economic and social development, and promotes collaborative innovation of industry, university and research. Using the school council as a platform to vigorously promote social services, the school council members have grown to 90; the school has China’s first science and technology park featuring energy and safety --- "Zhongguancun Energy and Safety Science and Technology Park" and "China Mining "University Overseas Student Entrepreneurship Park" and the Energy Safety Industry Technology Research Institute jointly established with Beijing to form the school's production, study, research and application and technological achievement transformation system, becoming an important part of the Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone and the capital regional innovation system construction.


   The school actively carries out academic exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad, and continuously promotes international schooling. At present, the "Beijing High-tech University Alliance" has been jointly initiated with 10 domestic high-level industry-specific universities, has signed inter-school cooperation agreements with 45 world-renowned universities and scientific research institutes, and has established partnerships with more than 100 well-known foreign universities and scientific research institutes. The relevant disciplines have carried out academic exchanges; the annual meeting of the International Coal Petrology Committee, the International Organic Petrology Annual Conference (ICCP-TSOP) joint meeting, the first behavioral safety and safety management international conference, the International Organic Petrology Society (TSOP) ) International academic conferences such as the annual conference, the International Mining Science and Technology Conference, and the International Mining Rock Stratum Control Conference, and academic exchanges have become increasingly active.
