Beijing Sport University

Founded in 1953, Beijing Sport University was formerly known as the Central Institute of Physical Education. In 1956, it was renamed Beijing Sport University. In 1993, it was renamed Beijing Sport University. It is a national key institution and a national “211 Project” key construction university. The list of "double first-class" construction colleges and universities has a glorious history of running a school, a profound cultural heritage and a solid foundation for running a school. It enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad and is affiliated to the State Sports General Administration. The school is located in Information Road, Haidian District, covering an area of 755,000 square meters, with a building area of approximately 450,000 square meters, and has a total of nearly 100 indoor and outdoor training venues.


The school currently has four departments: the Department of Physical Education and Health, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Olympic Sports, and the Department of Sports Engineering. There are 7 colleges: Training College, Wushu and Traditional National Sports College, Sports Leisure and Tourism College; the Ministry of Humanities and Social Sciences includes the Marxist College, the Management College, the Sports Business College, the Journalism and Communication College, the International Sports Organization College (Foreign Language College), and the Arts College, International Culture College, Continuing Education College (Winter Olympic Training College) 8 colleges; the Olympic Sports Department consists of the China Football Sports Academy, China Basketball Sports College, China Volleyball Sports College, China Ice Hockey Sports College (China Curling Sports College) There are 11 colleges (schools), China Swimming College, China Athletics College, China Extreme Sports College, China Equestrian Sports College, China Coaches College, Competitive Sports College, and Affiliated Competitive Sports School; the Department of Sports Engineering consists of the Sports Engineering College. The Party School of the General Administration of Sports of the Communist Party of China, the Cadre Training Center of the General Administration of Sports, and the Coach Academy of the General Administration of Sports are located in the school.


The school has 4 national key disciplines, 13 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, 2 provincial and ministerial outstanding key disciplines, the Key Laboratory of Sports and Physical Health of the Ministry of Education, and the Key Laboratory of Physical Fitness Training and Physical Recovery of the State Sports General Administration, etc. 5 There are 1 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, 1 Beijing Higher Education Engineering Research Center, 1 National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, and 2 Beijing Higher Education Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers. The library has more than 1.2 million books.


  The school focuses on undergraduate education and graduate education. There are currently 27 undergraduate majors, namely physical education, sports training, social sports guidance and management, sports human science, martial arts and traditional national sports, public service management, sports economics and management, journalism, advertising, applied psychology, English, performance, dance performance, sports rehabilitation, leisure sports, Chinese international education, pedagogy, economics, internet and new media, German, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, tourism management, Marxist theory, physical training. The school discipline layout involves 9 disciplines of education, law, economics, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management, and art. It has a national key discipline of physical education and a key secondary discipline of Beijing; the overall level of physical education of the primary discipline ranked first in the first three rounds of national discipline evaluation, and ranked A+ in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation Grade. The school has the right to confer a doctorate degree in physical education and the right to confer a master's degree in five first-level disciplines in Marxist theory, pedagogy, psychology, clinical medicine, and public management; it has three majors in sports, art, and journalism and communication. The three principals of the school Zhong Shitong, Ma Qiwei, and Jin Jichun won the International Olympic Committee "Olympic Movement Silver Medal", "Sports Learning and Research Award" and "Sports and Education Award" respectively.


The school has always adhered to facing the country’s major strategic needs and the frontiers of discipline development, presided over more than 150 projects above the provincial and ministerial level such as the National Science and Technology Support Project and the Major Projects of the National Philosophy and Social Science Fund, and won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the Ministry of Education Outstanding Achievement There are 28 scientific and technological awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level. "Journal of Beijing Sport University" is a Chinese core journal of sports, a core journal of Chinese humanities and social sciences, a source journal of the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI), a journal funded by the National Social Science Foundation, and an outstanding scientific journal of a Chinese university. It is the only annual journal since 2012. Selected as a Chinese sports journal of "China's most internationally influential academic journals".


   As one of the key units in Beijing that opened to the outside world after the founding of New China, Beijing Sport University is an important window to show the world the achievements of New China in sports. Since the establishment of the school, the school has established inter-school relationships with 123 foreign (overseas) higher education institutions in 45 countries and regions around the world, and has trained more than 15,000 international students in 106 countries. Among them, Alek Madison Dr. (Oleg Matytsin) was elected President of the International University Sports Federation in 2015.
