Beijing Jianzhu University is a university jointly established by Beijing and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, a pilot university for the “Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program” of the Ministry of Education, and an advanced university for party building and ideological and political work in Beijing. The school originated from the Jingshi Elementary Industrial School established by the Qing government in 1907. In 1933, it was renamed Beiping Municipal Higher Vocational School. In 1936, the civil engineering department was added. After that, it passed the Beijing Municipal Industrial School, Beijing College of Architecture, and Beijing Civil Engineering. Engineering school, Beijing Civil Engineering School, Beijing Civil Engineering Institute and other development stages. In April 2013, it was renamed Beijing Architecture University with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The school resumed undergraduate enrollment in 1977, was identified as one of the first batch of universities to grant bachelor's degrees in the country in 1982, and was approved as a master's degree-granting unit in 1986. In 2011, it was identified as a pilot university for the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. In 2012, "Architectural Heritage Protection Theory and Technology" was approved to serve the national special needs doctoral talent training project and became a doctoral talent training unit. In 2014, it was approved to establish a post-doctoral research station "Architecture". In October 2015, the Beijing Municipal People's Government and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development signed a joint construction agreement, and the school officially entered the ranks of provincial and ministerial joint construction universities. In May 2016, the school's "Future City Design High-tech Innovation Center" was approved as the "Beijing Higher Education High-tech Innovation Center". In 2017, he was approved to recommend outstanding undergraduate graduates to study for postgraduate qualifications without examination. In May 2018, it was approved as a doctoral degree granting unit, and architecture and civil engineering were approved as a first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization point.


   There are two campuses in Xicheng and Daxing. The Xicheng campus covers an area of 123,000 square meters, and the Daxing campus covers an area of 501,000 square meters; the total school building area is 488,000 square meters. At present, the school is accelerating the construction of the two campuses in accordance with the “two highs” layout goal of “building the Daxing campus into a high-quality undergraduate talent training base and the Xicheng campus into a high-level postgraduate training, scientific and technological collaborative innovation and achievement transformation base”. The school library has a paper collection of 1.529 million volumes, 1.85 million e-books, 52 large-scale electronic literature databases, and the China Architecture Library jointly built with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. It is the university with the most complete types of architectural books in the country.


   The school has distinctive characteristics of disciplines and professions and a complete talent training system. The school currently has 10 colleges and 1 basic teaching unit.
