Taizhou University is a comprehensive general undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education. It implements a provincial and municipal joint management system and a city-based school system. The school has a long history, and its origins can be traced back to the Simple Normal School of Santai Middle School established in 1907. The predecessor was Taizhou Teachers College established in 1978 with the approval of the State Council. In March 2002, Taizhou Teachers College was upgraded to Taizhou University. From 1995 to 2007, the former Taizhou Teachers' Training College, Linhai Normal University, Taizhou Health School, and Wenling Normal University were merged one after another. The school adheres to the local, applied, and comprehensive orientation of running a school, and upholds the school motto of "bath and bathe in morals, and timely study". In May 2008, the school passed the undergraduate teaching level assessment of the Ministry of Education with a 17A2B score.
The school is now running on two campuses in Jiaojiang and Linhai. The campus covers an area of 1823.88 mu with a construction area of 544,000 square meters. The total value of existing teaching and scientific research equipment is 241 million yuan, 1.99 million paper books, 700,000 electronic books, more than 2,100 Chinese and foreign periodicals, and rich graphic resources. There are 14 secondary colleges with 15,289 full-time students. The Linhai campus was opened in 2000. There are 7 secondary colleges, including the College of Humanities, the College of Foreign Languages, the College of Mathematics and Information Engineering, the College of Physical Education, the College of Art, the College of Teacher Education, and the College of Marxism, focusing on liberal arts and teacher education. There are more than 6000 students in school. The Jiaojiang campus was put into use in 2005. There are 7 secondary colleges including the School of Economics and Trade Management, the School of Physics and Electronic Engineering, the School of Life Sciences, the School of Medicine and Chemical Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Civil Engineering, and the School of Medicine. There are more than 9,000 students in school.
The school vigorously implements the "Human Talents" project and has established a more powerful teaching staff. There are currently 1303 faculty members and 804 full-time teachers, including 339 teachers with senior professional titles, accounting for 42.2%; 250 with doctoral degrees, accounting for 31.1%; 3 people are selected for the provincial "Thousand Talents Plan", and 6 are awarded special status by the State Council. Allowance, more than 30 person-times were awarded various provincial and ministerial-level honorary titles such as the National May 1st Labor Medal, National Model Teacher, National Outstanding Teacher, New Century Outstanding Talents of the Ministry of Education, and Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions in Zhejiang Province. It has 4 provincial-level first-class disciplines, 2 provincial-level key laboratories, 1 provincial-level university high-level innovation team, and 1 provincial academician expert workstation.
The school adheres to demand-oriented, closely focusing on Taizhou's leading industry development majors, and has established a number of distinctive professional groups such as pharmaceutical and chemical engineering, materials engineering, electrical information, mechanical engineering, construction engineering, life environmental protection, economic management and so on. There are 47 undergraduate majors, including 2 national-level characteristic majors, 2 provincial-level superior majors, 3 provincial-level characteristic majors, 4 provincial-level emerging characteristic majors, and 9 provincial-level key (construction) majors. There are 7 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers (including 1 key). The school is one of the teacher education bases in Zhejiang Province, and also has a tertiary A-level directly affiliated hospital (Taizhou Central Hospital).
The school promotes the in-depth integration of production and education, adheres to the coordinated development of the school and the local area, and closely connects with the development of the Taizhou medical industry. It has established the Zhejiang "Thousand Talents Program" Taizhou Biomedical Industry Research Institute, and has been approved as a national expert service base and a post-doctoral workstation in Zhejiang Province . The Advanced Research Institute has been established and a group of advanced research institutes directly linked to the development of local industries have been established. It has attracted 9 innovative teams led by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changjiang Scholars, Guoqian, Provincialqian, National Outstanding Youth and other first-class scientists. Directly provide high-end talents and technical support for local innovation-driven development. In addition, the school has also established the Sanmen Research Institute of Taizhou University, Zhejiang (Taizhou) Small and Micro Finance Research Institute, Taizhou Merchant Research Institute, Hehe Culture Research Institute, Tiantai Mountain Cultural Research Institute, Taizhou Dachen Island Reclamation Spirit Research There are more than 20 platforms such as the center.
In recent years, the school has actively promoted the reform of education and teaching, vigorously strengthened the application-oriented construction, and the level of school running has been steadily improved. The practical innovation ability of students has been greatly improved. In the past three years, the total number of awards for category A competitions has increased by 22.1%, and the total number of first and second prizes has increased by 75%. In 2016, the entrepreneurial rate of 10 majors was higher than the average level of the province. . Graduates are generally welcomed by employers, and the employment rate has reached 96.08%. The professional relevance of the recent three graduates has been higher than the provincial average by nearly 10 points for three consecutive years. Normal education maintains its traditional advantages, and the employment competitiveness of normal graduates is relatively strong. The rate of obtaining teacher qualification certificates for normal graduates in 2017 was 86.60%. The alumni of the school are spread all over the country, and more than 200 of them have been awarded honorary titles above the provincial and ministerial level. Some outstanding alumni have become entrepreneurs, doctoral supervisors and main leaders of party and government agencies at all levels. After more than 10 years of construction and development since the promotion, the school's school-running level and overall strength have been significantly improved. In the 2017 Wushu Lianban University Rankings, our school ranked 347 among ordinary colleges and universities across the country, which is 15 places higher than in 2016.
