The predecessor of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology was the Hangzhou Technical College Affiliated to Zhejiang University, which was established in 1980. It has successively experienced the development stages of Hangzhou Technical College Affiliated to Zhejiang University and Hangzhou Institute of Applied Engineering and Technology.
