Hangzhou Normal University is a local comprehensive university with a focus on teacher education, art education, and basic disciplines in the arts and sciences, with rapid development of emerging applied disciplines and coordinated development of multiple disciplines. The predecessor of the school can be traced back to the Zhejiang government two-level normal school founded in 1908. It is one of the six earliest higher normal schools established in the country. In 2007, the school was renamed Hangzhou Normal University.
