Zhejiang Normal University is a comprehensive provincial key university featuring teacher education. The predecessor was Hangzhou Teachers College, which was established on April 16, 1956 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. Upgraded to Hangzhou Normal University in 1958. In 1962, Hangzhou Normal University merged with Zhejiang Institute of Education and Zhejiang Institute of Physical Education and changed its name to Zhejiang Normal University. In 1965, he moved from Hangzhou to Jinhua. In 1985, it was renamed Zhejiang Normal University. In 2000, 2001, and 2004, Zhejiang Finance School, Zhejiang Preschool Teachers School and Jinhua Railway Driver School were merged one after another. In 2015, it was selected as one of the first batch of key construction universities in Zhejiang Province. It is now composed of 3 campuses in Jinhua (the main campus of the school), Hangzhou (Wen Second Campus, Xiaoshan Campus), and Lanxi, and 18 colleges (including independent colleges).


Zhejiang Normal University adheres to the direction of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the fundamental task of cultivating people. The quality of talent training has gradually improved. Since the establishment of the school, more than 300,000 outstanding talents at all levels and various types have been sent to the society, of which 210,000 are working in the education system. Nearly half of Zhejiang's in-service special-level teachers and provincial-level key middle school principals graduated from China School. The school's undergraduate teaching performance assessment and the overall satisfaction of graduates with their alma mater are steadily in the forefront of undergraduate colleges in Zhejiang Province, and the overall employment rate of graduates has been maintained at around 96%. At present, there are more than 25,000 full-time undergraduate (college) students (including independent college students), more than 6,000 postgraduates, nearly 3,000 international students, and nearly 20,000 adult students in higher education.


The disciplines are complete, including 71 undergraduate majors, 8 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 1 professional doctoral degree authorization point, 27 first-level discipline master programs, 11 professional master's degree categories, 2 post-doctoral mobile stations, and 2 countries "111 Plan" discipline innovation and intelligence introduction base. Four disciplines including mathematics, chemistry, engineering, and materials science are among the top 1% of ESI in the world, and 20 disciplines are listed as first-class disciplines in Zhejiang Province. It has 16 national-level courses, 6 national-level majors, and 4 national-level experimental teaching demonstration centers.


The faculty structure is reasonable, with 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 5 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 5 Changjiang Scholars Distinguished Professors, 1 Young Changjiang Scholars, 2 National Outstanding Contribution Experts, National Ten Thousand Talents Program Leading Talents 1 person, 1 famous teacher of the National Ten Thousand Talents Program, and 28 persons enjoying the special allowance of the State Council.


The scientific research and social service capabilities have been steadily improved, with 1 National Science and Technology Progress Award approved, 28 Excellent Scientific Research Achievement Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences) of the Ministry of Education, 2 National Educational Science Planning Outstanding Achievement Awards, and a major bidding project of the National Social Science Fund 9 items and 18 key projects of the National Social Science Fund. It has established Zhejiang Province's only one-level key research base for pedagogy, the "Excellent Teacher Training" provincial 2011 collaborative innovation center, Zhejiang Basic Education Research Center and Teacher Education Quality Monitoring Center, and 19 affiliated high schools have been built. Based in the middle of Zhejiang, the school deepens strategic cooperation with Jinhua, and actively plays a role in the construction of a strong province through reform, innovation, opening up, and talent.


International exchanges and cooperation continue to advance. The school has established cooperation and exchange relationships with more than 190 higher education institutions or educational institutions in more than 50 countries and regions on 5 continents, and established inter-school student exchanges with more than 40 foreign (overseas) universities. The project was selected as the construction unit of "Zhejiang Top Ten Foreign Cooperation Units" and "Zhejiang Internationalized Universities with Characteristics". The school is the Ministry of Education "Foreign Education Aid Base", the Ministry of Commerce "China Basic Education Foreign Aid Research Base", and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education "China-ASEAN Education and Training Center. It has established 5 Confucius Institutes overseas and was approved to establish the Ministry of Education, China, South Africa Humanities Exchange Research Center, Hanban African Confucius Institute Research and Training Center, Zhejiang Confucius Institute Teacher Selection and Training Center.
