Zhejiang Vocational College of Special Education

Zhejiang Vocational College of Special Education is the first independent establishment in the country and the only college in Zhejiang Province that mainly provides higher vocational education for the disabled and the disabled. The school’s history can be traced back to the Zhejiang Vocational and Technical School for the Disabled, which was founded in 1993. At the beginning of its establishment, it mainly carried out adult education and vocational training for the disabled.


In May 1998, the school began full-time technical secondary school education, filling the gap in Zhejiang special education general secondary school education. Since 2000, the school has cooperated with Zhejiang Radio and Television University, Zhejiang Education College, Zhejiang Vocational College of Art and other universities to develop higher education for the disabled, which is an example of the implementation of higher education in the National Disabled Persons’ Federation system. In December 2001, Zhejiang Vocational Technical School for the Disabled was renamed Zhejiang Huaqiang Secondary Vocational School. In April 2014, Zhejiang Special Education Vocational College was formally established with the approval of the People's Government of Zhejiang Province and the record of the Ministry of Education.


The college has two campuses, Xiaoheshan and Tiancheng Road, with a total area of 177 acres and a total construction area of nearly 90,000 square meters. It offers arts and crafts design, digital media art design, e-commerce, Chinese and Western pastry crafts, and rehabilitation treatment technology. (Tuina direction), rehabilitation treatment technology, special education (teacher training), special education (sign language translation) and other 6 higher vocational majors (8 directions). In 2021, the school will add tea art and tea culture, national traditional skills, and preschool education (teacher education) three majors. Among them, the special education professional group has successfully entered the ranks of the Zhejiang double high professional group, becoming the leader in the construction of the special education high-level professional group By. In addition, the school and Zhejiang University of Science and Technology jointly hold an undergraduate program in visual communication design. At present, the school has gradually formed a coordinated development of various types of full-time higher vocational education, adult education, vocational training, etc., and has become an important base for vocational education for the disabled in Zhejiang Province.


As of 2021, the school has more than 2,000 full-time students, 74 classes, and approximately 60% of students who are blind, deaf, and physically disabled. There are 167 faculty members, including 107 full-time teachers and 30% of senior titles. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has exceeded 95%. Disabled students enrolled in school and disabled persons who receive vocational training are exempt from tuition, accommodation and training fees, and they also enjoy the state and school's scholarship and scholarship policies.


Based in Zhejiang and facing the whole country, Zhejiang Vocational College of Special Education adheres to the mission of "being professional and strong, highlighting characteristics, sharing and integrating, and striving for first-class" as its mission. It has trained tens of thousands of disabled students and a large number of students have emerged. The national self-improvement model, the most beautiful Zhejiangese-the Red Cross touched person, the provincial technical expert, the deaf painter, the Paralympic champion and other outstanding talents. In 2009, the school was rated as "National Advanced Unit for Special Education" by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the China Disabled Persons' Federation.
