The predecessor of Zhejiang Economic Vocational and Technical College was Zhejiang Material School, which was founded in December 1978. In March 2000, preparations for the establishment of Zhejiang Vocational and Technical College of Economics. In January 2002, with the approval of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, a higher vocational school was formally established, which was founded by the World Top 500 Enterprise Property Zhongda Group (formerly Zhejiang Provincial Materials Bureau). In July 2017, the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government approved the establishment and transfer to Zhejiang Mechanical and Electrical Group to form Zhejiang Vocational Education Group.



The school adheres to the school motto of “dedication, application-oriented, advocating optimization, and pursuing excellence”, and aims at first-class vocational colleges with internationally renowned and distinctive domestic characteristics, based in Zhejiang, facing the whole country, and serving the supply chain integration industry. The modern service industry mainly cultivates compound technical and technical talents.
