Zhejiang International Studies University is a public provincial undergraduate college with coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as literature, economics, management, education, science, and art based on foreign languages and literature. The predecessor of the school was the Zhejiang Institute of Education, founded in 1955. It began general undergraduate education in 1994 and was restructured and renamed with the approval of the Ministry of Education in 2010. The school motto is "Mingde Hongyi Boya Mastery".


   The school is characterized by cultivating international application talents. Currently recruiting students from 16 provinces (autonomous regions) across the country, with 8,545 full-time students (including international students). There are the School of English Language and Culture, the School of Oriental Language and Culture, the School of Western Language and Culture, the School of Chinese Language and Culture, the School of International Economics and Tourism Management, the School of Education, the School of Cross-border E-commerce (jointly signed by the School of Science and Technology), the School of Art, and the School of Applied Foreign Languages.    The school pays attention to the integration of foreign language majors and non-foreign language majors, and strengthens the construction of "foreign language + major" and "major + foreign language" majors. The school has more than 190 practical education bases. Students have a broad international vision, obvious advantages in foreign languages, high overall quality, and strong employment competitiveness. Students have repeatedly achieved good results in various national and provincial competitions.    The school actively builds the discipline construction characteristics of "multilingual, interdisciplinary, and international", and the results are beginning to show. There are now five provinces including foreign language and literature, Chinese language and literature, applied economics, business administration, chemistry, and other "13th Five-Year" first-class disciplines (category B); the Latin American Institute and the German Research Center have been awarded national and regional studies by the Ministry of Education Center for the record; there are two collaborative innovation centers for Latin American research and Sino-Latin American cooperation, Zhejiang culture "going out", as well as national and regional research centers (the Arab Research Center, the German Research Center, and the Latin American Research Institute), foreign languages There are 24 research institutes including learning and applied linguistics, translation, international business language and culture, international tourism and leisure.

The school is a key training institution of the Ministry of Education’s National Training Program, a key construction base for teacher education in Zhejiang Province, and a training base for international service outsourcing talents in Zhejiang Province. The school has long cooperated with the German Hans Seidel Foundation to carry out various teacher trainings in China and has gained a good reputation. The school publishes newspapers such as "Teaching Monthly (Middle School Edition)", "Teaching Monthly (Primary School Edition)", "New World of Composition", and "Primary Student World". The school actively carries out international education exchanges and cooperation. It is the project unit of the outstanding undergraduate international exchange program of the Chinese government and the outstanding undergraduate international exchange program of Zhejiang Province. It has cooperated with the United States, Russia, Germany, Spain, France, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Chile.
