The School of Tourism and Culture of Yunnan University was held in Lijiang in 2002 in accordance with the new system, new mechanism, and new model. It was confirmed as an independent college by the Ministry of Education in January 2004. At present, the college has 16,880 full-time students and has trained more than 30,000 qualified graduates for the society.
After more than ten years of construction and development, the college has now become an independent college with economics, literature, management, art and other disciplines as the main body, coordinated development of multiple disciplines, and training high-quality undergraduate application-oriented talents. The college has 7 disciplines, including economics, literature, engineering, management, art, science, and medicine, 16 first-level disciplines, and 28 majors. An applied undergraduate professional system that meets the needs of local economic and social development and coordinated development of multiple disciplines has been initially formed. It has established mutual visits and cooperative relations with higher education institutions in the United States, France, India, Japan, Thailand and other countries, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The campus environment of the college is beautiful, simple and elegant. The campus architecture with Naxi and Bai nationality styles is unique. It won the Silver Award for Architectural Design of the Ministry of Construction. It also won the National "Architectural Creation Award for the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic" together with famous buildings such as the Great Hall of the People. The only unit in the province that has won this honor; the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Yunnan Province awarded the college the title of "Yunnan Garden Unit"; it was selected as one of the top 50 universities in the country for campus environmental satisfaction.
