Chuxiong Normal University is a full-time general undergraduate university in Yunnan Province. In May 2001, approved by the Ministry of Education, it was established on the basis of the merger of the original Chuxiong Normal College and Chuxiong National Normal School. In 2009, it was awarded the title of "National Civilized Unit" by the Central Civilization Committee, and it was the first school in Yunnan Province to receive this honor. In 2010, he passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment by the Ministry of Education. In 2014, it was listed by the Ministry of Education as a national project unit of the "Excellent Primary School Teacher Training Plan Reform Project". In 2015, it was approved as a pilot university for the application-oriented overall transformation and reform of local universities in Yunnan Province. In 2016, "Pedagogy" was selected as the first-class discipline (plateau discipline) construction project of Yunnan Province. In 2017, it was awarded the "National Civilized Campus" by the Central Civilization Committee, and it is the only university in Yunnan Province to receive this honor. In 2018, it successfully passed the review evaluation of undergraduate teaching by the Ministry of Education. Currently, efforts are being made to build a frontier ethnic local applied brand university featuring teacher education.
School is located in Chuxiong City, the capital of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, which enjoys the reputation of "Hometown of Oriental Humans", "Hometown of Dinosaurs", "High-quality Wild Fungus Kingdom", and "Grand View Garden of Chinese Yi Ethnic Culture". The climatic conditions are superior, the annual average temperature is 16℃, there is no severe cold in winter, no scorching heat in summer, and the four seasons are like spring. It is more than 100 kilometers away from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, with convenient transportation and is known as Kunming's "Back Garden". The campus environment is beautiful, the digital campus network is unblocked, and the mobile library is convenient and fast.
The school adheres to the orientation of application-oriented universities and demonstrates the school-running characteristics of "application as the foundation, teacher training as the characteristics, distinctive application-oriented talent training characteristics, outstanding teacher education advantages, and obvious results in promoting the local economic construction and social development of frontier ethnic minorities". The educational philosophy of "successing virtue and understanding, accumulating wisdom and abilities, integrating learning and application, and integrating knowledge and action" takes "high ideological and moral character, solid professional foundation, strong professional ability, high comprehensive quality, and quick adaptation to work" as the goal of talent cultivation. With the characteristic goal of "quick start, sufficient stamina, innovation, and good character", we will focus on cultivating high-quality applied talents for local economic construction and social undertaking development.
The school recruits students from 25 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) across the country. At present, there are 11,722 full-time students, more than 2,000 academic correspondence students, and more than 1,000 non-academic trainings every year. They have been awarded the "Advanced Group for Graduate Employment" in Yunnan Province for 11 consecutive years. There are 758 faculty members, including 558 full-time teachers, more than 400 doctors and masters, 237 senior and deputy senior titles, including 6 second-level professors; 1 Yunling Scholar and 1 Yunling Famous Teacher. There are 5 famous teaching teachers, 11 provincial academic and technical leaders and reserve talents. The school currently offers 56 full-time undergraduate majors and more than 30 correspondence undergraduate majors. Distributed in 9 disciplines of literature, law, science, engineering, agriculture, economics, management, education, and art. At present, there are 3 provincial-level planning master degree authorization points for construction disciplines, 1 provincial-level advantageous characteristic key discipline, 1 national-level characteristic major, and 5 provincial-level advantageous characteristic majors.
The school takes serving the locality as its mission, and actively develops scientific research and social services. There are more than 100 national, provincial and ministerial-level projects, and more than 1,000 department-level, school-level and horizontal projects. There are 1 provincial philosophy and social science research base, 3 provincial university key laboratories (and cultivation bases), 2 provincial philosophy and social science innovation teams, 2 provincial university science and technology innovation teams, and 2 school-county joint research bases. There is one national "Excellent Primary and Secondary School Teacher Training Plan Reform Project". Scientific research achievements have been awarded more than 100 provincial and above awards, and nearly 30 national patents have been authorized. At the same time, adult vocational continuing education has cooperated with well-known universities, enterprises and institutions inside and outside the province, and the grassroots first-line cooperation, and established national basic education teacher training points, vocational technical qualification training centers and other training bases at all levels. The form serves local education, enterprises and industries.
The school has vigorously strengthened its opening to the outside world, has established school-running partnerships with Singapore, Thailand, the United States, Vietnam, Taiwan and many domestic universities, carried out joint training, scientific and technological cooperation, overseas internships and other international cooperation projects, and promoted the school to be open and international develop.
The school has successively won more than 20 honorable titles such as "National Civilized Unit", "National Civilized Campus", "National Advanced Unit of Spiritual Civilization Construction", "Civilized Unit of Yunnan Province", and "Civilized School of Yunnan Province". The overall level and influence of the school has continued to increase.
