The predecessor of Honghe College was the Mengzi Teachers College, founded in 1978. In April 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the Mengzi Teachers College and the Honghe Branch of Yunnan Radio and Television University merged to form Honghe College. It is a Yunnan Provincial and provincial publicly-run general undergraduate colleges and universities, the school implements the management system of "province and state co-construction and co-management, with the province as the mainstay".
