Yunnan School of Economics and Management is a full-time general undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education. The school was founded in 1992 and is one of the earliest private schools in Yunnan Province. In 2004, approved by the People's Government of Yunnan Province, it was upgraded to a higher vocational college. Approved by the Ministry of Education in 2014, it was established as a full-time general undergraduate college and was renamed as Yunnan Institute of Economics and Management.

The school has 10 secondary colleges (departments) including the School of Accounting and Finance, the School of Business, the School of Engineering, the School of Art and Media, the School of Education, and the School of Medicine.
