Kunming College was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2004, based on the merger of the former Kunming Teachers College and the former Kunming University, and integrated the quality education resources of Kunming to form a full-time general undergraduate college. The school was granted the right to confer a bachelor's degree in 2008 and passed the qualification evaluation of undergraduate teaching by the Ministry of Education in 2012. In 2014, it was listed as the first batch of applied universities in Yunnan Province as pilot universities for overall transformation. In 2017, it was named as Yunnan Province applied model university and the first chairman unit of Yunnan Province applied university alliance. In 2018, it passed the undergraduate review and evaluation of the Ministry of Education and became a master's degree granting unit. In addition, the school is also a member unit of the National Alliance of Newly-built Undergraduate Colleges, the National Teacher Education Alliance of Local Colleges, and the Teacher Education Alliance of Yunnan Province Higher Schools.
● School conditions
The school covers an area of 2439.18 mu, of which the Yangpu main campus covers an area of 1817.73 mu, and the off-campus practice base 621.45 mu; the main campus has a planned construction area of more than 600,000 square meters. It has now built 500,000 square meters and completed a total investment of 2 billion yuan. The library has more than 3.5 million books, including 2.32 million paper books, 1.172 million e-books, and more than 100 paper books per student. The total asset value of teaching and research equipment is 342,938,300 yuan.
● Subjects and undergraduate majors
The school currently has two first-level master's degree awarding points in physics and Chinese language and literature, and three major master's degree award points in agriculture, materials and chemical engineering, and international business. There are currently 11 disciplines in economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and art, and 65 undergraduate majors. Among them, there are 1 national characteristic major (Chinese language and literature), and 31 provincial and ministerial superior majors. The school participates in the "Six Excellence and One Top" 2.0 plan, and actively carries out the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" for the construction of first-class undergraduate majors. People’s musician Nie Er is an outstanding alumnus of Kunming College.
