Lhasa Teachers College is located at No. 301, Group 2, Baiding Village, Caigongtang Street, Chengguan District, Lhasa. It is the only normal college in Tibet Autonomous Region to train basic education teachers and the only college in Lhasa. The school’s predecessor is The "Teacher Training Class" established by the Lhasa Bureau of Culture and Education in 1964. In August 1975, the Lhasa Normal School was established with the approval of the People's Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region. On February 14, 2006, it was upgraded to Lhasa Teachers College with the approval of the National Colleges and Universities Setting Committee.
The new campus of the school covers an area of 612.5 acres. According to the standard planning of "modern, characteristic, networked, and landscaped teaching-oriented undergraduate normal colleges", the entire relocation will be realized in October 2020.
The school has 15 secondary institutions, including 6 management departments, 7 teaching departments, and 2 teaching auxiliary units. There are 286 faculty members, including 230 full-time teachers. Among the full-time faculty, there are 10 professors, 54 associate professors, 88 lecturers; 112 masters and 10 doctors; 1 renowned university teaching teacher in the autonomous region, 1 outstanding teaching team in the autonomous region's universities, and 2 scientific research and innovation teams in the autonomous region's universities. The number of students in the school reaches 4,640. Among the teachers and students, there are 13 ethnic groups including Tibetan, Han, Mongolian and Hui.

In the 45 years since its establishment, the school has trained more than 40,000 talents of various types. Especially since the reform and upgrading in 2006, the school has cultivated nearly 30,000 applied talents who are "reliable, useful and retained" for basic education and economic and social development in Tibet. According to statistics, 52.74% of elementary school preschool teachers in the district are trained by Lhasa Teachers, 50.14% of middle-level and above cadres in elementary school kindergartens are trained by Lhasa Teachers, Song Yugang, the most beautiful rural teacher in the country, Bunima, the country’s famous principal, the highest altitude in the world (5573 meters above sea level) Gama Deqing, the only female teacher of Puma Jiangtang Primary School in Langkazi County, graduated from Lhasa Teachers College.
